The Pretender - Season 4 (DVD, 2009, 4-Disc Set; Dual Side)

Pretender is one of my Favorite series. I missed many of the original and rerun shows due to work schedule. I'm excited to finally complete my set with the purchase of Season 4 so I can enjoy my retirement with a Pretender Marathon any time I wish. ;-)
I was disappointed with the final show of Season Four because I felt it left too many questions unanswered. It's as if there really wasn't an "ending" to any of the plots. Interviews with the writing staff at the end of Season Four Set explains what really happened. They purposely created such a strong cliff hanger for end of season ..but.. surprise was on them when network didn't pick up the show for another season ....... however .........

There is a double movie set available that hopefully answers many of our questions: PRETENDER 2001 - PRETENDER: ISLAND OF THE HAUNTED.
Double Feature includes: Disc 1 - Side A: "Pretender 2001" - Picking up where the television series left off, Jarod reunites with two old friends and unleashes some powerful Centre revelations. This film opens with a sequence that will allow it to be enjoyed by individuals who have not yet seen the TV series. Disc 1 - Side B: "Pretender: Island Of The Haunted" - Through a series of bizarre circumstances, Jarod and Miss Parker find themselves trapped together on a strange island in a life and death situation, out of which come some of the most important revelations about their pasts.

If you grew up watching this show on the TV, you will love this DVD pack. I have this and I cross stitch while I watch the DVD's.. The show is just as I remember it, the only difference is there aren't any commercials.... For all of you that enjoyed the show when it was on will love these DVD's.

Wow! I did not watch The Pretender when it was originally on TV, but I wish I would have. This is a fabulous TV series. It is amazing how Jared becomes a race car drive, doctor, EMT, etc. Michael T. Weiss does a superb job of acting. Miss Parker, Broots & Sydney are gReAt characters as well. I love how Jared eats 'Pez' candy and has at least one different Pez Container in each show. How he "finds" toys like Play Doh and Silly Putty for the first time is truly classic. This is a GREAT show and I highly recommend it. The only problem with it is once you watch one episode you want to watch them all that night! LOL

For fans, this is the most in depth Pretender Season of all. Jarod is clearly the focus using his abilities to help his "comrades" learn about their secrets and issues hidden from them. A much more satisfying view than Season 3; richer in context, plot development and story lines. The only low point is the ritual Cliffhanger Season Finale where Miss Parker and Jarods recently discovered Half-Brother is on a train headed for disaster. Without revealing the ending; we are all left adrift at the abrupt end. Since a Season 5 was expected, there are many clues and unanswered questions hanging in the air - WIll Miss Parker and Jarod finally blaze their barbed relationship? Will Cloe and Jarod steal away and finally establish his own family? Will Jarod use his incredible talents and bring the center down so it will not ever threaten him again? Will Sid finally steal away and join Jarod as a willing/full-time partner? What is the Catherine Parker Plan? How can Miss Parker develop her gift for herself, not the center? Is Lyle really as debased as we're led to believe? When will Mr Parker finally get caught short with no way to escape?
We all long for closure and this season brings these questions and more right to the edge just under the waters surface tension. This is a fitting end to a series closed down 24 episodes too soon.
If you are a Pretender fan, then join on the website and send in those emails to NBC so we can get a closure movie or quick three-parter to bring this fine ensomble to it's fitting end. A Must buy and popcorn view for all Pretender fans.

I like Jarod when she find her sister plus his brother.also when Miss Parker found out that they share a brother both jarod and Miss Parker.The thing I dont want is the season end this way.

the item has been on my list for quite sometime. its a very good show and has lots of stuff to keep you interested.

This is the best T.V. Show I had ever seen, a great story and great actors. I will never get tired of this show. This show makes you think and can also relate to real life issues and drama. With so many twists and turns, you'll find the main character, Jarod, becoming anything or anyone to put bad people behind bars by making them feel the same fear they have inflicted on their victims. Jarod has been a Doctor, Teacher, Professor, Caost Gaurd, High Ranking Military personnel, and even a news reporter. I only wished that they could have done at least one more season, but they followed up with two movies, which I plan on owning soon. If you never seen this show, I highly recommend it, you will like it.

I was working two jobs when this show was running, and only caught a few shows, so it was wonderful to finally see this on dvd! What kills me is that there are no finished answers with this show.
There were even two movies on TNT and they STILL left questions...Hopefully, someday, Jared will finish up answering his questions.

The Pretender took a while to get going in the first season and had trouble with a repetitious episode format. Once they got the clue that the really interesting aspect of the series was the parallel search for the truth about their family history by Miss Parker and Jarod, the series really took off. The fourth season finishes up the series, while leaving some pesky dangly bits for the TV movies.

We had not seen the Season 4 episodes before. We were very disappointed in the content - the mode is completely different than the prior seasons and the series has lost the simplistic "mystery" that was the reason for the success in the beginning. It was particularly disappointing to have the series decline into the need for nakedness and remove the mystery solving aspects. We have not seen the movies that followed the end of the TV series. Hopefully, there is some redeeming factor there.

After reading the reviews already written, there is not much to add to them.
While we are still left with many questions...the writing....the development of characters and adding new aspects to the plot while explaining other parts of it...all are just as great as the seasons before. I do not watch mainstream TV anymore because I consider most of it to be pure garbage on so many levels. It is because of that belief that I am not surprised that the networks didn't continue to a fifth season. After all...what would they want with writing that is so good that it holds up without a steamy sex scene or a bloody crime scene in every episode?! If you are looking for real entertainment that makes you think instead of lulling you into a dull stupor, I heartedly recommend The Pretender.

I bought it because it was the last season in its series and I own the rest. Near the end of the 3rd season the episodes were seeming redone or redundant. The fourth season opens with a new look and a few things different than the past seasons. The season also reveals more into the past of the people at the Centere. The only draw back for me was that I believe this season has a few less shows than the ones before it.

Just as good as the first three seasons. The only thing that we dislike about it is that this was the final season. Maybe they will make a movie to give Jarod a chance to finally be with his family and give "Mr. Wiggles" what he deserves.

I loved the series and did not want to go shopping store to store. Buying the DVD on ebay was the fastest and easiest way to buy. If you love Michael T. Weiss, you'll love this DVD.

I couldn't wait for the final chapter and loved it except the the show really dosen't end just has a cliff hanger and did not come back for another season. Really disappointing, but still glad I saw it.

Once again I love the Pretender series. My kids and I just finished watching season 4 during our weekend Pretender-a-thon! Lots of twists and turns and character development. Miss Parker's family has to be the most twisted family that I have seen in a series for a while. I am surprised that she didn't have a nervous breakdown with all of the filth that Jarod helped her to uncover about her brother and dad. I loved the fact that Jarod was reunited with family members of his own. My biggest complaint has to be that the series ended without a season 5 to answer all our questions. I have heard that there are a couple of made for tv movies out there, I just haven't found them. I would recommend this series and hope that someday there may be a movie to help us get some answers.

This selection of DVD's clears up all the loose ends left over by the third season. Unlike seasons one, two and three, the fourth season has never been repeated on television. It is a great viewing and I encourage all Pretender fans to look at it.

In one phrase: 'The Pretender' rocks. Hands down. The first season may have been a little slow, but this season (as well as the last one) have been simply outstanding.

About the DVDs, the interface is easy to use, there's nothing else remarkable about them. Since I don't see the bonus features, I have nothing to say about those. To others out there who have also purchased this DVD, does there seem to be a loss in picture quality?

This is an excellent show! My whole family loves it, and my younger children wish it still came on TV. Great intrigue!
