Garland shine again

Although she received second billing next to James Stewart, MGM kept expanding Lana Turner's small role into the major female lead and much of the attention is on the "glamor girls" including Hedy Lamar. But it is Judy who is sometimes left in the background--but never for long. She is the only 3 hopefuls for the the famous Ziegfield Follies that really makes it in the business. And when she is singing the touching "I'M ALWAYS CHASING RAINBOWS" she can't be topped and steals the show. Lana goes about success the wrong way and ends up losing. Garland makes it at the end as a star. James Stewart as Turner's love interest is rather wasted. And Hedy is around for the glamour. Add Tony Martin who is not needed for the singing, Garland can handle that chore by herself, is also wasted.
But the movie does give an insight into how difficult it is to break into show business and is filled with enough subplots to keep the viewer glued to the set. Garland looks quite beautiful for the first time and carries the show.
Don't miss this one.
