Precious Metals Trade Guide - Adventure in Noble Metals by James W. Bushnell (1993, Paperback)

This review will be short and sweet. Over time i have corresponded with some fine folks on ebay. Many are very interested in precious metals but admittedly have very little understanding of the products. I believe the Precious Metals Trade Guide to be a wonderful read for those sticking that first toe in the water so to speak. If new to the precious metals market, this is the book for you.

The precious metals trade guide Authored by James W. Bushnell, will help to explain in detail much of the fundamental knowledge you will need regarding precious metals. Referencing, weights and measures, history, mining, mining stocks, refining, scrap. You name it and this book most likely touches on it. Before investing or collecting precious metals it is wise to have a general grasp of the subject before hand. It is roughly a facts and details book, almost a mini-encyclopedia on the subject. A wonderful reference tool for the novice collector/investor.

Many topics also touch on things like futures contracts, options, Jewelry, recycling, terminologies, and even testing for metals. When you read an ebay listing and it is stating troy weight or avoirdupois, or one pound as opposed to one troy pound, this book will clarify these terms. What is sterling silver as opposed to 999 silver, or 90% tender? What does grams, pennyweight, or grains designate? what is 24k gold as opposed to 12k gold? How much does a troy ounce weigh? These are basic insights, but invaluable for the beginner.

The book also goes into more advanced information for those who have some understanding, but are looking to expand it. This should be the first book you own if you have a genuine interest in the precious metals market. It's an invaluable reference tool, for investors and collector's alike. If i was teaching a precious metals class for beginners, this would be a must read homework assignment.
