Donald De Carle was a Fellow of the British Horological Institute and also was a Medallist of the BHI. De Carle is considered by many horologists as the undisputed authority in watchmaking and watch repair.

One important thing to remember is when looking to purchase this book, one should make every attempt to locate an original publication which was printed by the NAG Press, Ltd., London. The original books have much better drawings and better details than the reproductions of 1992.
