Good Amplifier; not so good on space

Last summer, I purchased a complete new stereo system to install in my pontiac firebird. I knew nothing about amps, speakers, subs, or anything else... I went by the peak wattage alone. Naturally, I made a few errors. In guessing the kind of amp I would need I matched nothing but the peak watts-- ignoring the ohms and the rms. This miscalculation eventually led to me blowing my amp. Even before it blew however, the wattage going to my subwoofers was poor to say the least. After the demise of my old Pyle amplifier, I looked into the mechanics and technology of speakers and how amplifiers worked. After learning some background information, I was able to start looking for an amp with sufficient wattage to to power my subwoofers.
After an extensive search on several websites, I narrowed my results down to two amplifiers. One being a Lanzar MXA252 and the other a Power Acoustik OV2-2600. I then read various review of the brands on numerous sites which led me to believe that Lanzar may not be the best brand out there and that many of their products were of poor quality. While Power Acoustik didn't receive the best reviews either, it was graded as more of a midgrade amplifier, which was good enough for me. (high end amplifiers used in competitions may be excellent, but for the sole purpose of cruising down the streets bumping the subs, midgrade will definitely do)
When I finally decided on the Power Acoustik OV2-2600, I checked some various websites for the best price, and as usual found that the lowest price for a new product was on eBay. I placed the order and a short week later I was installing it.
This is when I ran into my only problem. The amplifier was HUGE! If you're at all familiar with the space in the rear of a firebird, you'll realize that its not enough room for a colossal amplifier such as this. I turned it sideways, and layed it flat, but whatever I did I couldn't seem to get it to fit where I wanted it. So I replanned it's placement and bought some heavy duty velcro to adapt to my needs. I mounted it up sideways to the carpet. It looked good, but it didn't stay there too good. It fell frequently and the sticky side of the velcro got everything stuck on it. Finally I wedged it down in the trunk a little farther to where it would stay and placed a soft blanket in the bottom just incase it happened to fall out of place.
Ignoring its huge mass, this amplifier blew me out of my seat! It easily tripled the loudness and sound quality that came from my 3000 watts 2 channel Pyle amplifier. Not only that, but at max volume, it was barely even warm! I no longer had to put up with the problem of overheating the amp, and I could shake the car next to me with the bass. It was (and is) amazing. It powers my two 700 rms subwoofers with ease. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good amp for great price. Just remember: before you buy it, measure it.
