This DVD is loaded with 3 all time great film classics. Two of them are with the original casts: "Dark Passage" & "The Bad & the Beautiful." The third is a landmark remake of "The Postman Always Rings Twice."
Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall co-star in "Dark Passage," one of their famous films together. The plot is full of twists & turns. As the film opens, Bogie is escaping from prison at San Quentin. The news is broadcast all over the local radio stations. Bacall, who's followed Bogie's unjust trial & conviction of the murder of his wife, hears the news & rushed to find the path he's escaping on. She succeeds, picks him up & provides a refuge to him within her own apartment. In order to remain free, Bogie undergoes plastic surgery on his face (to look like Bogie). Before the bandages are removed, viewers never see Bogie's face! His goal is to find the real murderer of his wife. Bacall takes up the same goal with him. It's a wonderful mystery with the steamy legendary couple taking up nearly every frame of the film. This DVD is full frame 1.37 with English mono sound~
Vincente Minnelli turns his high powered master director's focus upon the filmmaking industry itself to create this 5 Oscar winner! "The Bad & the Beautiful," is a classic about the plight of an ego-maniacal producer, Jonathan Shields (Kirk Douglas), who's trying to make a come-back. But, during his hay-days, Shields alienated actors, writers & directors because he was bent upon becoming the greatest producer of all time. He didn't care about all of those who worked for him, as long as he got the glory. Now he's calling upon three of those he walked over. The story's presented from their perspectives: a director's (Sullivan), an actress' (Lana Turner, delivering her greatest performance of all time) & a writer's (William Powell). What results is the most scathing scrutiny of Hollywood's main industry. This DVD is full frame 1.33 & includes the documentary, "Lana Turner: A Daughter's Memoir."
This is a remake of the 1946 censored classic film noir that starred Lana Turner & John Garfield. Director Bob Rafelson's version of "The Postman Always Rings Twice," features Jessica Lange in the role of Cora, the gorgeous young unhappily married wife of Nick, a fat, older husband & Frank, the handsome younger man who becomes an employee at their café.
This time, Frank Chambers (Jack Nicholson) stops at a small roadside café while hitchhiking to L.A. in search of a job during the depression era. After laying his eyes upon the luscious Cora (Jessica Lange), Frank decides to find a way to stay on as their employee. Impressed by his, Nick (John Colicos), offers Frank the job he's after. Immediately smitten with each other, Frank & Cora decide to get rid of Nick. This DVD remake removes the censored aspects, is full frame 1.33 & has Dolby digital mono audio, three original theatrical trailers, interactive menus, numbered scene access & production notes. In short, it's steamy hot~
