The Poseidon Adventure (DVD, 1999)

This was always one of my favorite disaster films of the 70’s. When I heard of the remake for the big screen I could hardly wait to see it.
This big budget film has some amazing affects and the small details are wonderful especially on a big screen. The storyline is basically the same but most of the charters have changed to basic Hollywood formula charters. Although the original ones are more interesting and unique these work adequacy and the actors do a great job. The special affects are a big A+ for this film. I think it does deserve more credit than it is given

Ernest Borgnine is part of a cast of many who make this movie a great classic.
The wave comes, the boat tips over - what will they do next??? You'll have to watch and see.

Great script. Superb acting. Gene Hackman playing against Earnist Borgnine made you feel both of there extreme emotions. Shelly Winters gave a heart breaking scene.

None of the sequels or remakes come close to recreating the heart-wrenching suspense and danger of the original Poseidon Adventure. The difference is the cast. The original actors had truly great acting ability. They were of different ages and had distinct personalities. They were not cookie-cutter pretty faces who get picked off one by one; when someone dies in the original, it makes a big impression. The audience CARES! It doesn't need computer-generated special effects; the panic in the character's voices and faces makes you believe the ship has capsized and everyone is in mortal danger. Shelley Winters, Jack Albertson, and Roddy McDowell will have you biting your nails and reaching for the kleenex. A must-see for disaster movie fans.

An awesome movie torn to shreds.
Color is slightly off in a bad way, sound is tinny and sometimes skippy, the widescreen inside a standard 3:4 aspect screen size is completely insipid.
Horrible treatment of any movie, but even more horrible for what movie it is.
Worst version I've ever seen.
Instead of this one, find the 2-disc special edition 2000 version from FOXHOME. I'm no FOX fan, but they did the widescreen the right way, balanced the color, cleaned up the audio, and added a second disc full of some of the most interesting things! Lobby cards as well, and the boxing is almost directly off the movie posters, and at least reflects the art of the movie.
This version, 1 out of 5. The 2-disc 2000 version, 5/5.

The product was brand new as stated. I bought it because it was a hard to find item. Very satisfied with order. Excellent movie.

This is an awesome piece of art. By taking chances and stretching the imagination only a few out of hundreds of passengers survived a titanic type catastrophy under the sea. Capsized and stranded from higher authority, people were forced into the all time decision to sit and wait for the solution to come to them, or to take action, face their fear and go forth into the unknown which is now upside down.
Gene Hackman, Shelly Winters, Earnest Borgnine, Red Buttons(Got to love him), Jack Albertson(Got to love him even more.)were amazing in there portrayal of the courageous frayalty of the human spirit, and stuborn will to survive a seemingly hopeless situation. Gene Hackman...pressing forward on the information from a child about the ship's hull, and the logic of bachelor with a tender nature, understanding that God uses all persons...especially the weak, gives up... just before the miricle happens.
The movie is real..., and if you are for real... you will love it too!!!

I love this movie, the 'original' - but I also really enjoyed the newer
version with Kurt Russell and Emmy Rossum as well. Little different, but
a lot of similarities as well. --
But whether you choose the original 72 version or the newer updated rewritten new version they are both exceptionally good movies I think that will have you in suspense waiting for what's going to happen next? Who's going to make it and who won't. Good Movie!

IT's a movie we can all enjoy together as well. My children also enjoyed it. It wasn't graphic or horror or 'nightmares' - not as graphic as the Titanic was anyway.

The 70's were a great time in cinema! No CGI no fake fires, no pretend.. this is truely the origional from the original! An added bonus was all the stuff included! GREAT OFFER DON'T MISS IT!

really good film even after all these years- catastrophie movie of all time! performances by some great wonderful actors, just loved the lavish feel to this older movie, it keeps you entralled form begining to end

If I had known that this movie contained so much profanity and nudity I would never have purchased it. A tremendous disapointment!

This classic film has many actors which stars in this movie. The most recent movie of Poseidon is not as good as the classic.

I liked this movie for the personal stories of the characters amongst the disaster sequences. It wasn't just one action scene after another. Shelley winters was great as the caring jewish wife, Red Buttons was good as a health nut and Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine were very good as the rogue preacher and griping suspicious cop. Its alot better movie than the one that came out last year.

I love being able to buy a movie that is out of circulation which makes it very hard to buy it in any retail store at all. Don't get me wrong I love buying new releases as well. I just like a movie that will keep me on the edge of my seat and The Poseidon Adventure is one of those kind of movies. I would give this movie an A for suspense and action. What else is also so great about this movie is the all-star cast.

never saw the new but i figured that it was a remake of the old one. watch this one first then the new. ilked this one better recommond it to friends.the price was outstanding.
