Primus Rocks.
This is an odd cd. Some of it is wierd that will lose the regular folk.

The "Diamondback Sturgeon" is a great addition to Les's fishing chronicles. Other highlights are Bob, DMV & My Name is Mud. And who can not love their odd interpretation of "Hick" music. Gotsta make ya smile.

Primus is not your average everyday band. They are probably best known for writing the opening tune to South Park. Yes, I said South Park. They cannot be compared to another band. Their musical style is all of their own. And you have to have an ear and an appreciation for their style. I have seen them open up for RUSH's Roll The Bones Tour. It is quite a show to see. The performance is even different from anything else you will ever see or hear. To put them in a musical category is just wrong. They are in a category of their own. There is A TON of HEAVY bass guitar and electric bass cello, banjo, and mandolin as well as some spectacular drum work on this album. With that combination of instruments being said, you gotta know the arrangement is very different. You just don't see many bands that fall outside the "guitar, drums, singer realm". The lyrics are strange, bizaar and sometimes even funny. But somehow turns out to be some real good music. And for being just a 3 man band, they can tear up some music. If you are amongst the adventurous types when it comes to listening to new music, I would say to get this CD. Every song on the album has just grown on me. I am glad I own it. I recommend hearing Mr Krinkle, DMV, Pork Soda, My Name Is Mud and Pork Chop's Little Ditty. This album is definately for those who are very open minded about musicians and musicianship. They are indeed a talented band if you can get past the uniquness and weirdness. Enjoy!

  LES IS A GOD!

"When I need relief I spell it THC. Perhaps you may know vaguely what I mean. I sit back and smoke away huge chunks of memory. As I slowly inflict upon myself a full lobotomy. -call it pointless."

"The act of perspiration is far beyond control. If the heat compels you to aspirate please try not to miss the bowl. If sweatiness makes you horney, well, darlin' I think you're in luck, 'cause all this clever banter gives me the urge to F---."

"When I write, words flow like coins from a candy box. Get out of my way. I've got something to say."

"I dress in blue-yes navy blue. From head to toe I'm rather drab, except my patent shoes. I make 'em shine, well, most the time, 'cept today my feet are troddin' on by this friend of mine."

Les is a creative genious. I love all of his music. Although, he has come a long way since this album-this one still rocks!

  Pork Soda

I really liked it. It was very weird and groovy sounding. I loved the upright bass on Mr. Krinkle. It's awesome. Dmv kinda reminds me of Jerry is a racecar driver but it rocks. My Name is Mud is a classic badass song. The whole album is just cool.

Pork Soda is my favorite Primus album. It's also one of their strangest. I've said in other reviews how much Les Claypool likes The Residents. I think it really shows here (Wounded Knee etc). The musicianship of the band really stands out on Pork Soda too. They were in a perfect groove when they made this one. 5 HUGE Stars.

One of Primus' best albums. This was the cd that introduced the world to "My Name Is Mud," the song that really launched Primus into the public eye.

  My Primus Experience
Review created: 06/05/06

I decided to to buy this album b/c I bought it years ago, and somehow lost it. I enjoy this album as it's different from most other music styles, and I love Les Claypool's off-the-wall lyrics. It is truly a wonderful album, and also one of lesser known ones. I would recomend it to anyone who enjoys this type of music, and to anyone who's open to new musical experiences. 10 out of 10 for this one!
