Synopsis
This contrarian's view dispels what the author sees as widespread liberal myths about the religion of Islam and strives to give readers the essential knowledge about Islam's principles and tenets that the author feels they need. Spencer finds aggression and intolerance in Islam's teachings, citing passages that he says contain threats to other religions. He corrects what he sees as the flawed history of the Crusades and warns about what he claims is an inevitable clash of civilizations between the West and the Islamic world. (Spencer's views--which he proudly calls politically incorrect--are published by Regnery, which identifies itself as a leading conservative publisher.)

Publisher's Note
Everything (well, almost everything) you know about Islam and the Crusades is wrong because most textbooks and popular history books are written by left-wing academics and Islamic apologists who justify their contemporary political agendas with contrived historical "facts." But fear not: Robert Spencer refutes popular myths and reveals facts that you won’t be taught in school and will never hear on the evening news. He supplies a revealing list of "Books You Must Not Read" (as far as the PC left is concerned), and takes you on a fast-paced politically incorrect tour of Islamic teaching and Crusades history that will give you all the information you need to understand the true nature of the global conflict America faces today. Bet your teacher never told you: --Muhammad did not teach "peace and tolerance"--he led armies and ordered the assassination of his enemies. --The Qur’an commands Muslims to make war on Jews and Christians. --The much-ballyhooed "Golden Age" of Islamic culture was largely inspired by non-Muslims. --What is known today as the "Islamic world" was created by a series of brutal conquests of non-Muslim lands. --The Crusades were not acts of unprovoked aggression by Europe against the Islamic world, but a delayed response to centuries of Muslim aggression --The jihad continues today: Europe could be Islamic by the end of the twenty-first century --Ex-Muslims must live in fear even in the United States

If you're anything like me, you like getting more info about the headlines especially since so much of the media is biased. Since Islam is all in the news these days and I enjoy studying other religions, I bought this book to learn more about one of the world's major faiths. I have to say I was really surprised after reading this book and seeing all the myths about Islam the book dispels -- myths such as Islam is a "religion of peace" and that Islam preaches tolerance. I was initially a bit sceptical of this book because the author has to be really biased against Islam, right? Actually though, very little of the author's opinion is in this book. In fact, almost every myth this book discredits uses direct passages from the Qur'an, quotations from Islamic leaders, and historical evidence. This was a pleasant surprise -- there's no rabid hate of Islam in here -- just a very scholarly and logical refutation of myths. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to others -- even if you don't agree with the book's premise, you will at least get a good introduction to Islamic theology. 5/5!
