Album Notes The Pokemon phenomenon probably seems as incomprehensible to adults circa 2000 as did the Smurfs in the '80s and mood rings in the '70s. However, even the most casual observer of youth culture knows how little difference that makes, as long as the kids are sufficiently enthralled. The children who flock to theaters to see POKEMON 2000 would probably listen happily to Bulgarian folk music as long as it accompanied their beloved Pokemon characters. But the adults (or teenagers) who bring them to these theaters will appreciate the high production values applied to the film's pure pop soundtrack. '70s disco queen Donna Summer proves her own staying power with "The Power of One," while Alysha provides a near-fatal dose of cuteness with "Dreams." Veteran parodist Weird Al Yankovic applies his accordion know-how to (what else?) "Polkamon," and the B-52's, old hands at pop whimsy, will ring some nostalgic bells with the children of the '80s on "The Chosen One." Don't try to fight it--Pokemon will win in the end.
