Excellent aid to playing by ear!

Excellent for learning chord construction and learning to play by ear or from "fake" books. Very easy to understand with a few simple songs included. Covers circle of fifths, etc. and helps in the area of arranging music to better suit one's particular style. This book is not just for beginners to learn to play, but also very useful for sight readers to adjust to playing without "crutch" of commercial sheet music. The method described is the way that many pros use when playing gigs. Use this for setting up play sheets which is a kind of shorthand for your own arrangements. If you read music and think you can't play by ear--you need this book. Unless your playing sounds very mechanical, you are already using your ear more than you probably realize, and this book can really help in gaining confidence using your ear and your memory. Once you understand chord notation and construction, you can play very full arrangements from simple treble clef melodies, and create moods by modifications to your chords. I have been a piano tuner for 27 years and have been playing for 40+ years. I have owned a copy of this book for about 20 years and still find it useful to review from time to time.
