Platoon (DVD, 2009, Special Edition; Single Disc Version)

Oliver Stone was the director of this film. However, you may not have known that Oliver Stone actually served our country in Vietnam. Not only that, but received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart during his tours of duty.

How best to honor the fallen men, women, children, and MIAs and POWs of this great conflict.

Oliver Stone wanted to make a film that embodied the undeniable irony of the total futility of this war through the eyes of Chris (Charlie Sheen). In doing so, he captured the pure essence of innocence turned into terror.

No one man can totally encapsulate a feeling of this war better than Oliver Stone. Everyone needs to see this movie and its historical value in the context of other great moments in history.

I met a veteran of Korea and Vietnam the other day. He was 77. He told me much about his time there. Lucky him. Look, Listen, and Live respecting these last remnants of foreign wars. I loved my Grandfather so much when he would tell me his WWII stories, and sometimes it would take him a very long time to GET several words out in a row.

PLATOON has won the right to be in the top 100 films of The American Film Institute standing on its own at # 83.

This film has a very strong adult content and is not for everyone in the family, however I will say that it will always be a part of my history. Perhaps as a lucky young man that never had to experience these things is why I would recommend this movie to anyone interested in serving your country in any capacity.

This is yet another piece of Oliver Stone garbage that was produced with nothing more than a political slant. I got up and walked out of the theatre when this movie first came out and a week later, the base commander banned this piece of garbage from being played at the base theatre. Anyone who thought that this movie was great and portrayed Vietnam, needs to talk with a veteran of the conflict and then apologize for being brainwashed by Stone. This movie made it appear that everyone in Vietnam was raping women, killing children, using drugs and never left the field. Oliver Stone took every last possible stereotype of the conflict and made it happen in one movie. This is a discredit to our military and once again spits in the face of every soldier that ever served during Vietnam. If you want to see a Vietnam era movie, then watch "We were soldiers". At least the movie didn't have a political slant and honored those that served or lost their lives during the conflict. A 1/5 rating is too good for this waste of film and a better representation would be a 0/5.

I have a sort of sad soft spot for stories, both factual and fictional, from the Vietnam war. This was the war of MY time, and will always exert some influence on me. Friends died there or as a result of having served there, and my sense of the betrayal of a generation won't leave me alone. "Platoon" is a story that speaks directly to me, suggesting the nature of the nightmares of my friends. For me it's always moving, and a rendering of a story that warns of recurrent dangers both physical and moral.

That this is a "Special Edition" isn't really that important to me. I didn't notice any extra footage, which is about all I would notice, since I seldom view the "Special Features".

It's a great and important story for any generation.

Platoon is a very "real" feeling movie. You are able to imagine what it was like during the war. Many times I felt such grief for the people over there and for our troops. Great acting and great movie.

Can't wait to see it again. Its one of the best Vietnam War movies out there. I think only Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now are above it. But its definitely top 3. Hamburger Hill is good too. And Born on the 4th of July. And Deer Hunter.

This was a excellent portrayal of what was really going on during the Vietnam War. This movie also helps the viewer to understand why we lost this war.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies! I made this purchase to replace my old videotape media and upgrade my collection to DVD. Also, I am a hugh Johnny Depp fan...he has a small role in this movie!

Just like I remember NAM when I was in the jungles of South Asia....The battle in the platoon is what it was really like during the segregation era in the United States. Fights would break out over certain music being played and racial volgury was rampant. The war had an effect on the physiology of the mental state on youg men that was from every part of America.

This movie was one of those great war movies. A must have in any collection. Has all of the big named stars when they were young. You get to see the Vietnam war from a point of view. Lots of action. The special edition has a documentary of the actors as they were making the film, what they had to go thru etc..
This movie is a classic and i recommend it to anyone.

This movie is not for the faint of heart. It is about the Vietnam War and stars many big names before they were famous. Definately a must see if you are a fan of the era or war, and you have the stomach.

i bougth this item a few weeks ago , and i like its clear image, something i dont like is that have to keep changing zoom for wide screen.

I bought 3 dvd movies they were used but in good shape,If they have any more dvd movies i like I will buy from them again.

I purchased this DVD as a gift for my boyfriend who had been watching a VHS version of Platoon for years. Someone taped the movie off the TV, so he had to fast forward through these HORRID old commercials and the quality of the VHS copy, as I'm sure you can imagine, was simply intolerable. So I was very excited to find this DVD special edition. We were even MORE elated once we put it in, to see all the behind the scene bonus features, etc that it included. More impressive, was the clarity of this film on DVD. It was like watching it for the first time. We watched it in widescreen mode and the sound and effects were AMAZING in comparison to what we had been watching. I scored many points with him and it required little effort to do so. It was shipped nicely, and quickly. I can't say anything bad about it.

This is one of the best war movies ever made. Great acting, writing, and Directing. I did own this on vhs, but I just had to have it on dvd.

I was interested in this item because I've read it is the most realistic depiction of the Vietnam War experience.

I bought Platoon, cause it's an old time favorite of mine. When I was a teenager I fell in luv with the movie. I had to purchase it!

If you enjoy watching war films, this movie is right for you! I personally think this movie is well directed and the characters really do a great job acting. Has plenty of action, killing, blood everywhere, people getting shot as usual. Very emotional movie, a must watch for all war movie fans.

This film is a great attempt to depict the pain our young men endured in Vietnam. No film can accurately describe there struggle. Platoon tells a story that anyone who served can relate to.
