Album Notes Additional personnel: Shelia E, Wendy & Lisa. The Purple One's PLANET EARTH arrived amid controversy, as Prince's label refused to release it in the U.K. after he made it a free giveaway with copies of a British newspaper. Despite the unconventional promotional tactics, the album proved to be one of Prince's most straightforward releases in some time. The uptempo pop-rockers "Guitar" and "Resolution" hark back to his mid-'80s heyday, and the slow-jam R&B of "Future Baby Mama" finds him turning up the romantic heat in no uncertain terms. There's no lack of danceability either, as evidenced by the funk workout "Chelsea Rodgers." For all the unfettered energy and libidinous inspiration, though, PLANET EARTH represents a more mature Prince. Pushing 50, he has more on his mind than partying. The elegantly unfurled title track and the aforementioned "Resolution" bespeak a strong sociopolitical awareness, as he addresses the global concerns of climate and war, respectively. Ultimately, the album serves as both a pure slice of sonic pleasure and a potentially consciousness-raising platform for Purple positivity. | Find errors in the product description? BTW, I was glad to find it available on eBay! Review ID: 10000000007002514 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 04/28/08 by: Great CD. It has a blend of traditional off the cuff Prince lyrics and music blended with todays Hip Hop sound. Prince is still a master at great ballads. This CD is an example of a musical genius transcending and blending styles from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today. The album cover itself is a good sign of that character. The songs from this album is a pure continuity of his typical work: a blend of amazing dancing tunes with powerful ballads, made for true fans and not really intended to hit the pop charts. It's one of a "Love It or Leave It" kind, and maybe this is why this album is so brilliant. I stay with the "Love It" one. Prince is a multi-instrument player who drives audiences completely crazy with his astounding and well-produced performances, fully capable to turn a rock arena into a huge dance floor. With this record, more quality music are added to the concert lineup with success guaranteed (or your money back). My highlight on the ballad side goes to "Somewhere Here on Earth" and for the dance side goes to "The One You Wanna C" (a title which is entirely written in the Prince way - remember "Nothing Compares 2 U"?), tracks number 3 and 4 respectively. I am a huge fan and new music from the master always excites. This album connects from cut to cut and has constant jams back to back. Review ID: 10000000004580231 Was this review helpful?
