Publisher's Note

"Jim Hardy is the most knowledgeable teacher in golf. This extraordinary book will be the most revolutionary instructional book since Ben Hogan's Five Lessons."
--Peter Jacobsen, Seven-time PGA Tour event winner

Voted one of "America's 50 Greatest Teachers" by Golf Digest and ranked in the "Top 100 Teachers" list of Golf magazine, Jim Hardy is a veritable scholar of swing. He's been fixing the swings of professional and amateur golfers since 1977, and in The Plane Truth for Golfers, he makes his groundbreaking concepts available to you for the first time.

Hardy's revolutionary approach is simple: There are two sets of fundamentals to the swing, not one. There is the one-plane swing, for more athletic players, and the two-plane swing, suitable for players of all abilities. Understanding these concepts is crucial to your improvement, and Hardy breaks them down into easy-to-follow steps, complete with dozens of photographs.

"The Plane Truth" is Truely Unique

The good news about this book is that Jim Hardy will help you may sense of the hundreds of swing tips, many of which seem to contradict each other, that we are exposed to in various golf instruction. His theory is that golfers need to determine whether they have a one plane swing or a two plane swing, and should follow only the type of instruction that pertains to their type of swing. He makes a convincing case for this in his book and offers clear instruction for each type of swing.

The bad news, at least from my point of view, is that most of us swing the club with various aspects of both swing types (exactly the thing he warns against) and if we were to dedicate ourselves to purely one type of swing we would have a difficult time in deciding which one to choose. I'm not sure how many of us have the time and patience to find the answer by trial and error.

It is clear though, that Jim Hardy understands the golf swing as well as anybody and this book is as thought provoking as any golf instruction that I've read.

The best info on the golf swing

Over the years, I've purchased and permanently borrowed over 25 books on the golf swing. The Plane Truth for Golfers is the best information I know of. Very quickly, my swing has improved and my scores reflect it. I'm 59 years old and I'm swinging better than at any time in my life. My swing is MUCH more on plane, much simpler, and much more powerful and I'm only a beginner Hardy "one planer" still getting used to a new swing. Since receiving the book I've played 6 rounds, only one was in the 90's, and that was a 91, which is good for a guy with a 16 index. I've never been a long hitter, but I've been able to reach three par 5's in two, something I'm not sure I've ever done.
There is a tremendous amount of information on the golf swing out here, much of which is conflicting. Hardy claims his book demystifies the conflicts. That claim is extremely important and that claim is truthful.
I think the book presents information clearly and is easily understood.
