"The Plane Truth" is Truely Unique

The good news about this book is that Jim Hardy will help you may sense of the hundreds of swing tips, many of which seem to contradict each other, that we are exposed to in various golf instruction. His theory is that golfers need to determine whether they have a one plane swing or a two plane swing, and should follow only the type of instruction that pertains to their type of swing. He makes a convincing case for this in his book and offers clear instruction for each type of swing.

The bad news, at least from my point of view, is that most of us swing the club with various aspects of both swing types (exactly the thing he warns against) and if we were to dedicate ourselves to purely one type of swing we would have a difficult time in deciding which one to choose. I'm not sure how many of us have the time and patience to find the answer by trial and error.

It is clear though, that Jim Hardy understands the golf swing as well as anybody and this book is as thought provoking as any golf instruction that I've read.

The best info on the golf swing

Over the years, I've purchased and permanently borrowed over 25 books on the golf swing. The Plane Truth for Golfers is the best information I know of. Very quickly, my swing has improved and my scores reflect it. I'm 59 years old and I'm swinging better than at any time in my life. My swing is MUCH more on plane, much simpler, and much more powerful and I'm only a beginner Hardy "one planer" still getting used to a new swing. Since receiving the book I've played 6 rounds, only one was in the 90's, and that was a 91, which is good for a guy with a 16 index. I've never been a long hitter, but I've been able to reach three par 5's in two, something I'm not sure I've ever done.
There is a tremendous amount of information on the golf swing out here, much of which is conflicting. Hardy claims his book demystifies the conflicts. That claim is extremely important and that claim is truthful.
I think the book presents information clearly and is easily understood.

The book was too difficult to understand and relate to for the ordinary golfer. I was hoping it would discuss how one could apply the proper swing to use for one's ability. It was over priced and gibberish.

One of the best golf books that I have read. It clearly explains the 2 golf swings that most golfers use and how to improve whatever technique that one chooses.

  The Plane Truth for Golfers

This is the best instruction book for golfers who want to improve their game by finding the correct swing plane to use. It discusses one and two plane swings and helps you to identify your body type, your natural tendencies and the lie angles of clubs you would need. A great book for the serious golfer - easy to understand and implement.

The Plane Truth is the truth about golf swing planes
Review created: 01/14/09

Liked the clear separation of the 2 distinct swing principles and the proper fundamentals applicable to each. Jim Hardy has written the best golf book of instruction since the late Ben Hogan in 1957 (who only wrote about his swing - a 1 plane swing). The photos were excellent in helping the player understand the principles as well as the practice motions required to perfect each type of swing. My local pro has now adopted this approach in his teaching.

  Reasons for buying anything
Review created: 01/02/09
by:

A person buys something for three reasons.

1. You feel it is something you want or need.
2. You want to feel that what you are buying is worth more than the price you are paying for it.
3. After you receive it, you want to feel that reasons 1&2 have been throughly satisfied.

The product I bought passed the reason test.

Now for those who are interested in the informative side, the book 'The Plane Truth For Golfers is a straight forward no nonsenxe guide to understanding the golf swing. It uncovers the miscopnceptions and mysteries of the swing. The book is easy to understand and breaks the golf swing down into two types of swing planes. Meaning that in order to make a golf swing , the golf club has to be taken back on a certain plane or path, before it can be brought forward. Ther are two ways to do this. One is to take the golf club back and up onto a higher path or plane than the shoulders are turning. The next move would be to lower the arms into a psition below the shoulders that puts you on a plane or path that leads the arms, hands and clubhead directly back to the ball. Two moves, therfore this is a two plane swing. The one plane swing, the arms, hands and club move back and up on the same plane as the shoulders, Therefore the turn back to the ball does not require a dropping down of the arms to get back to the ball. Once you decide which swing you want to employ, the book reveals which body movements are necessary to perfect each swing. If you want to be a better you must have this information.

This book was recommended by a friend, who lent his copy for my use. After reading the first two or three chapters, I knew that I needed to have it as a ready reference. Due to recent hip replacement I have not tried to implement the one-plane swing, but hope to within the next few months. Every golfer should have a copy to sort out swing issues, to be able to determine good from bad swing advice, and to practice the appropriate mechanics. I like the book because it is easily understood, the examples yield clarity to the content, and it should generate confidence to most golfers that they are practicing the correct fundamentals for the swing-type they employ. This book is better by far than any other that I have read on the subject of the golf swing(s).
