Movie Description This innovative film from celebrated director Arturo Ripstein is an avant-garde character study of a Mexican transvestite named La Manuela (Roberto Cobo, LOS OLVIDADOS) who lives with his sexually liberal, brothel-madam daughter La Japonesita (Ana Martin). La Japonesita faces harassment from a resilient fellow named Pancho (Gonzalo Vega), hired by a prosperous landowner (Don Fernando Soler) whom hopes to threaten the brothel owner into selling her establishment. La Manuela uses his erotic dancing skills (in his best Flamenco dress, of course) to elude Pancho, resulting in an unexpected situation that effects everyone involved. Based on the novel by Jose Donoso, THE PLACE WITHOUT LIMITS is a dramatic, yet satirical portrait of Latin American machismo and homophobia in general. Also stars Lucha Villa as La Japonesita's misguided mother.
