The Pittsburgh Pirates 1979 World Series Collector's Edition (DVD, 2006)

No frills really in this box set, which happens to be one of it's strongest attributes in my opinion. You see every single second of game action in these dvd's, nothing more. Classic broadcast team with Cosell, Michaels, Jackson ...
Video quality i would call very good considering it is 30+ year old video stock.
I've watched all 7 dvd's, and all are of equal quality standing..
The ONLY small issue i recognized was a small flaw in that the video overlays of; player lineups, statistics; pretty much anything that would have appeared on the screen including a players name/stats, when he comes to bat, aren't visable on the screen.. as if they didn't make the transfer to the dvd's from the master tapes.. However, this only is the case for a couple of the games ... in MOST of them this is not an issue and these various stats, etc. do appear as they did in the original broadcast in '79.

This set was great! You were able to actually enjoy all of the games from the 1979 World Series and some extras. I wish they would do this with as many World Series as possible. I finally bought this set due to the great price and the recent "improvement" of the Pirates. Every Pirate fan should get this set to enjoy the Pirates at their best.

I have been a Pirate fan since 1959. Good to reminence about the 1979 series. Forgot a whole lot but got a lot back from the DVD's. Thought I had problems with the DVD's but found it was the player. Very enjoyable to go back nearly thirty years to re-live the entire series. Pirates fans need to watch this collection, not only to reminisce, but also to hold some hope that maybe, just maybe, someday we'll again see our team on top of the baseball world. The audio and video flaws were few, and it was actually interesting to hear the play-by-play and commentary of Drysdale, and to a lesser degree, Cosell and Jackson. For me, the biggest letdown was the bonus clips at the end of game seven. They were not nearly as in depth or lengthy as they could and should have been. Still, just to see the game action again, to rekindle the satisfaction of a great series comeback, this collection is a good buy, and that goes for any baseball fan, not just us Pirate fans!

this complete set of all seven games of the 79 world series is awesome. as a big pirates fan, i get to see the whole world series played again in its complete form. it also has interviews from the players reflecting on this great team. this is a must have for any pirates fan of that time. brings back alot of great memories too!
