Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) has returned from the dead to aid Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) in their quest to rescue the beloved captain. They journey to Singapore to ask for help from notorious pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat), and with this new alliance, they travel to the edge of the earth to find Jack. Then they will join forces with the world's most powerful pirates to unite against Lord Brackett (Tom Hollander) and the East India Company. AT WORLD'S END is an exercise in excess, boasting a running time of nearly three hours and a labyrinthine map of double- and triple-crosses. Characters return from the dead and change allegiances with ease, thanks to the magic of Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris) and the pirate code of ethics--or lack thereof. Though the third film in the series is filled with action and special effects befitting any blockbuster, it's the performances that make the movie memorable. Depp has earned an Oscar nod for his role as Jack, but he's not the only one who shines. With Jack locked away, the film sits on the strong shoulders of Rush, as well as Stellan Skarsgard as Bootstrap Bill and the brilliant British actor Bill Nighy as Davy Jones. Despite having to act behind a mess of CGI tentacles, Nighy nearly steals the show, as in the previous films UNDERWORLD and LOVE ACTUALLY. This is literally and figuratively the darkest entry in director Gore Verbinski's trilogy, as the film trades the sunny skies of the Caribbean for the world's most treacherous seas. There's plenty of rum-soaked humor, but it's balanced by betrayal and sacrifice.

Reviews Review created: 06/18/08 by: We have the first two POTC and love them. We are so glad to have the last in the series. At World's End is different, but so worth it. We've watched it over and over and never get tired of it. I don't understand that so many people thought it was boring. I guess they must be used to the R rated movies. We are pretty choosy about what we watch and let the kids watch. I am glad we didn't listen to other people's opinions and went ahead and purchased! This is one of the most watched movies in our collection. I won't spoil it, but you have to watch past the credits. This movie is great entertainment. As a result of watching so much, we have most of it memorized and pass quotes to each other all the time! The acting is superb. As always with POTC, the music is fascinating, and we also enjoy watching the extras on the discs. The feature about Hans Zimmer is awesome. I love this movie!!! Jack Sparrow lost more of his first movie personality. Even Capt. Barbosa lost some personality that made him great in the first movie. I really wanted to see the battle that killed the kraken. Review ID: 10000000006748657 Was this review helpful? Report this review I love the Pirates movies, so since I own the first two, I decided to buy the third one before I had seen it. I mean, you can't have the first two and not have the last one! However, I was a little disappointed about the storyline of this last one-- Kinda hard to follow, too much going on, there were so many new characters and themes. It just wasn't as exciting/entertaining/funny as the first two were. Maybe if I watch it another time I would understand it more.. But apparently I'm not the only one who had a hard time following the plot of the movie: the booklet inside the DVD actually had a Question/Answer section because the movie was so confusing!! Oh well. I guess they got caught up on the special effects (which were pretty cool) and forgot about developing a story. It was an ok movie, but I personally don't think it measured up to the first two at all. I was pretty disappointed. It coulda been so good!! :( Review ID: 10000000006584172 Was this review helpful?
