Pipe and Excavation Contracting by Dave Roberts (1987, Paperback)

Well written, knowledgeable author and very informative. I can understand why this book is recommended reading for the Contractor's Examination. It's amazing how easy this book was to read, especially with past experience of making it through 4 pages of an instructional piece of literature before dozing. There was no napping associated with this book, and the practical exercises contained within were helpful.
