I have had JVC Alpine and kenwood. I like the sound quality and look of the Pioneer, but i don't like the how I need the remote to use presets, and i don't like how hard it is to use the controls and adjust the EQ and others things in the radio. overall i give it a 7 out of 10 for quality, sound, looks, and realiablity

  Worth the price
Review created: 10/11/09

Ths unit is a single-DIN head with a removeable face. It has a connection for USB (on the rear of the unit-must be wired to a USB pigtail) and 3.5 mm round plug (on the front) so IPODs can be used easily. The CD is a single disc unti with the connection for a Pioneer CD changer. I found the unit to work well with the amplifier and speakers that I have in my system. It does have enough power to operate speakers without an amp if they are efficient enough, although you would need an amp for a subwoofer in any case. The Eq settings are limited. The multiple settings for Local on the tuner are somewhat difficult to justify, and they don't seem to make much difference. Overall it is a nice and fairly simple unit.

  I bought a Pair!
Review created: 09/05/09

A friend recommended this unit to me & I got one for both of my cars. I have never enjoyed driving as much as I do now! The USB dongle is run to my glove compartment & I have an 8gig thumbdrive with literally hundreds of complete albums ready for me to cue up on a second's notice. No more stacks of cd's getting scratched & playing lousy. Buy it, You'll be very glad you did!

  Not a bad Stereo
Review created: 05/13/09
by:

In every review I've read thus far, they all seem to be about the same said for it, nice stereo, however, can be a little confusing to learn to operate. I liked the presets that were already stored in the Eq. The fact that it also plays flash drives was pretty cool too. Although I wish they would've put the usb in the front instead of in the back on a cable. All in all I like it. I'll get used to the controls.

Great Radio for a Great Price!!!
Review created: 05/04/09(updated 05/28/09)

This radio is very user friendly, even for a novice like myself. The big diaplay is easy to read and the functions are very easy to use. The sound quality is great, and the detachable faceplate security feature is a nice touch. The USB cable is a great feature and one day may fully replace the cd.

I highly recommend this stereo deck to anyone considering an aftermarket deck. It is easy to use, attractive looking and has that great pioneer quality.

Needed a cd player in my car. I really like how I can control my ipod through it. Sounds great. The manual is a bit vague. It doesn't explain exactly how to set the clock, etc. No biggie, but a little annoying to try to figure out. Overall, i love it.

  Pioneer stereo
Review created: 01/12/09

Well, I had gotten this stereo for my wife for christmas. Her stock stereo had quit playing CD's. She wanted to upgrade. It has USB cord and hooks up to the mp3 player on her phone. Also reads mp3 and WMA files saved on CD. Great sound, we didn't change the stock speakers, and there is a positive difference in the sound quality. Overall very good stereo. I have heard that pioneers have problems with the eject mechanism, but the one I got is still working fine.

  My 2 Cents
Review created: 01/09/09

We had previously owned a Pioneer DEH9600MP but it kept having problems with the motorized face (even after ribbon replaced) so we decided to try this model without the moving faceplate.

The sound is good and for the most part sounds as good as our older Pioneer. The USB port is a HUGE plus as you can just plug in your Flash-drive and have lots of MP3s at your fingertips. The whole idea of burning a CD for your favorite tunes is good as obsolete; just put them on the Flash-drive and youre good to go. We havent tried the iPod connection, but I would imagine it is as easy. Very nice features.

The 'Rotary Commander' knob can be a major pain in the azz at first. I would suggest you take the time to read the instruction manual very thoroughly to learn how to use it. Even setting the clock can be a nuisance if you dont read the steps very carefully, and be sure to start at Step 1. We use the wireless remote control mostly to be quite honest. Im not fond of those 'all-in-one' knobs and prefer the old-school setup. Who knows, maybe other folks will like that thing, I'll bet you it wont be on next years models.... One other nitpick, why-o-why does Pioneer put a smooth/polished knob for the main knob? Its slick and not the easiest to grip and turn, especially for folks with larger hands/fingers. A knurled or textured side on the knob would go a long way to make the thing easier to negotiate while driving down the road, especially since this darn knob almost runs the entire unit.

If you buy this thing, you wont be too dissapointed, it sounds great. The USB stuff is very handy as well. I just think that Rotary Commander is a huge thumbs down.

Nice performance, but lousy owner's manual
Review created: 01/08/09
by:

Pioneer knows how to make radios that actually pick up radio stations. The "Super-Tuner" is a good trademark and a good description of how well it works. Unfortunately, their owner's manual is impenetrable. I tried to set the clock by carefully following the instructions. After of plenty of frustration, I finally resorted to disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cable at exactly 12:00. The instructions look simple enough, but something important must be missing. There seems to be 2 different models with the same name. Some have the USB access in the faceplate and others have a USB cable hanging out of the back. The wiring instructions were wonderfull. My greatest fear was hooking up the wrong wires and seeing my investment go up in smoke. They made it easy. I predict that I will love it in time, but it is very frustrating at present.

  Not Excellent but almost..
Review created: 12/26/08

What I liked:
I'm upgrading from a once top of the line JVC, sound quality is equal like old unit. The simple, minimalistic design is a plus, and will make your car look contemporary, blends seamlessly. The unit will play any cd you thrown at it, I even played not finalized cd's ok, even when the manual says not. I just tested cd's with mp3's because thats what I have, and provided the mp3's are recorded at least at 192kbps they will sound good enough to believe is cd audio. The unit also has interface for ipod/usb. I havent tested it, cause I don't own one (nor I will ever own it), but I will record some songs on a usb flash drive and test, but for me is not a must, I still like cd's. Also, usb port is on the back of the unit, pioneer did a good job not putting it in front, as I see it, this will: 1.Make the unit look like a good quality stereo, no some generic chinese POS; 2.Avoid to bloat the nice and clean look of the stereo face. Kudos for you pioneer, just connect the usb extension cable and hide it on the glove box.

What I didn't like:
The unit's interface is what makes most of my rants. I mean, it should be easy to make any changes fast, and painless, but a combination of things makes difficult this goal:
1.The rotary knob is kind of hard to use like a "joystick", it would be easier to put these controls around the it, not IN it, cause it's very imprecise; 2.I don't know why also the joystick is hard as hell to use, maybe is because it's new, but it also adds to the imprecise nature of the joystick. 3.The segment display is kind of hard to follow sometimes.

Conclusion:
The radio is good for a sub $100 unit, good features and pristine sound; a real upgrade from factory stereo. The interface can work, you do need to read the manual, familiarize with it, but it needs polishing in my opinion. The provided IR remote also minimize this too. Highly recommended.
