Pioneer AVIC-S1 Car GPS Receiver

I know, I know, I sell 'em, but really, this product is terrific! I'll tell you why...

I have had this product in my own car for over a year now. I liked it so much that I bought four more for my family and friends as gifts. The product is soooo easy to use, I gave one to my mother (whom, does not know squat about electronics)she uses it every day as a traveling home health nurse. She has made it to every patients house without fail. I also gave one to a friend of mine who is a flight attendant and travels all over the United States. She takes it with her on trips and uses it in the rental cars while on layover. She has been able to enjoy her layovers and hasn't missed her plane yet!

The AVIC-S1's are very inexpensive and can be taken from car to car etc.. It comes with a handy suction cup holder and car charger. (which by the way, you will need; so don't leave it home.)

What it has, POSITIVES: This compact navigation has voice guidance, turn by turn instructions, bluetooth capabilities (so you can hook it up for handsfree use of your cell bluetooth cell phone) and shows on screen your stats, such as the speed your car is traveling, the time, the estimated time you will reach your destination at, which satellite is tracking your car and what direction you are headed in. You can choose from Fastest Route or Shortest Route in the setting category. You can also overlay gas stations and food stops in the map screen. You can store address' in an address book to give you quick access to places you visit often. It also has a quick access button for returning home. AND... if you do end up taking a wrong turn it will reroute you and recalculate the best route to take you from your wrong turn.

The only thing that is NEGATIVE: The battery doesn't last that long. You will definately need to bring your car charger with you. The battery doesn't last longer than an hour or two. So if you are going on that long trip, make sure you take that car charger.

I most recently used it to get to eBay live in Boston!! Got right to the hotel without any problems, was able to stop for gas and lunch at the most convenient locations and was able to talk to my friends the whole way there on the bluetooth wireless handsfree!!

Definately recommended... I urge you to put it to the test!! You can purchase one on eBay at hifiaudioonline! You won't be disappointed!

We would like to inform you of the availability of a free AVIC-S1 firmware update to address recurring pop-up messages notifying users of the availability of the 2007 Map Data Upgrade, which is scheduled to be available for purchase on SD card in September 2007.

Pioneer has become aware that beginning on or about July 1, 2007, AVIC-S1 users began receiving recurring pop-up messages advising them that the map data on their AVIC-S1 was older than one year and recommending that they upgrade to more current map data, i.e., purchase the 2007 Map Data Upgrade.

These pop-up messages may cause confusion and/or annoyance to some AVIC-S1 users. However, the performance of the AVIC-S1 is not otherwise affected and the 2006 Map Data that came with the AVIC-S1 will continue to operate normally, even if the 2007 Map Data Upgrade is not purchased.

To address the confusion about and potential annoyance with the pop-up messages, Pioneer is offeri

Pioneer AVIC-S1 is a compact, handy powerful GPS receiver with built-in bluetooth.
Pros: The location is accurate and fast, it has an SD card slot, it is very compact, and it is equipped with bluetooth functionality which can connect to bluetooth enabled phones.

Cons: Sometimes the routing is not the best, (i.e. I know how to get to my home using the quickest way, and when I use it, it takes me from an unusual path) the built-in phone functionality could become easier accessible. There is no POI search by name functionality either.

What I would add: MP3 playing functionality, Weather and Traffic functionality, trip statistics and summary, remote control.

All-in-All this is a very good device for the price, but I was expecting a really really fantastic device from the creator of AVIC X1, and other great in car GPS systems.

i use the gps for work. its a great tool to have and extremely useful. the only downside is the battery life. the battery runs out in about 4hrs and fully recharges in 2-3hrs with the dc plug. the handsfree bluetooth is an added convenience. i bought this product because it was offered (and received) as a brand new, not refurbished, product with a 1yr warranty and no other site on the net sold it for less. the only other improvement i would like to see, other than longer battery life, would be a detailed display of my current location when motionless for more than a few minutes or selectable amount of time. information such as current block number on the current street and the name of the city. because this is pioneers only portable gps receiver, i doubt i'll ever see that happening, since its probably pioneers test product to compete with other portable gps receivers. as yet, they haven't made any other models or upgrades. this indicates to me they're out of the portable gps market... we'll see and i'll keep hoping. thanks for reading.......

Use this for long trips. BIG screen and easy to read. Like the touch screen. Bluetooth is great but plan on closing your windows to hear it. Not real loud. POI's need work but include the basic info of what's upcoming. Need a restaurant more than a motorcycle dealership ! All in all it's an excellent unit and have had no problems. Very easy to program BUT BUT BUT you must read the instruction book first. I missed some features until I went back and read the book. Am very happy and look forward to some map/poi updates soon. what the seller did was a great business.good product and thoughtful services...
i needed the product with cheaper price and i found what i exactly want.
the item was new and more than 50% cheaper because it'd been reconditioned but works perfectly good.
i'm enjoying it.

It works great, tne only thing wrong is it freezes once and a while and when it gets to hot from the sun beating on it it wont turn on with the power button you have to switch the switch off and then back on and then waite for like 5 to 10 min.

I bought this GPS several weeks ago from a person who wanted to sell it because it was not used except for 1 trip. I researched the item and found it had all the features I liked. It was a replacement for a Tom Tom 300. I find the unit very easy to use and VERY accurate. I like the fact the screen is very bright and can be seen in daylight. I also liked the price $200!! This GPS originally came out at $1000. I Called Pioneer customer service to order an additional dash mount disk and ask a few questions and they were very helpful. Over all I found the GPS very much to my liking. I give it an excellent rating. Bob W. Delray Beach, FL

I was disappointed by pioneer this time. The gps isn't as easy to use as I would like. The biggest frustration is there is no point of interest search by name. The only good things about it are the looks and the bluetooth is pretty nice.

Sorry it's takin so long for me to write a review, i got busy with the holidays. The GPS had already helped us out on one long trip and lots of small trips around town. We have been in this area for four years and never new about some of the different routes we could take until now!

I type in an address and this great compact unit takes me there. Very easy to use. The display is great, it tells me how far I'm going(miles), My estimated time of arrival, My speed, Current time, and my next turn is clearly displayed. The only thing I don't like is the map is displayed in 2d to see the street names. I would prefer the map disply in 3d with the street names. I would recommend it to a friend. Love it.......

I think this gps is good but they should make it recieve more satelite signal faster so that it doesn't freeze while you're driving, other than that you can trust it.

Does exactly what it should and is easy to use. Compact in size and easy to read. Voice is clear and easy to understand through the radio!

i really liked the pioneer avic s-1 because it is in really good condition and it works great it get you around and you dont get lost with this pioneer.

don't work. quits ask for updates every time even after installed then says replace battery and still won't work would rather buy a new one instead of going through this headache and even the windscreen mount is mising

I love it!!!!! Excellent, Good, me encanto el gps fui a NYC con el, la calle estaba cerrada por donde me indico que fuera, segui adelante y me saco de donde estaba y me llevo hasta donde iba. Lo conecte a mi telefono y funciona de maravilla, asi que recomiendo este gps 100%

is a good product got 3d maps is very cool device i recommend this product to everybody easy to operate and use got multi language voice command bluetooth

Likes: Is user friendly and portable from one vehicle to another.

Dislikes: Is an older,outdated model,but still works good.

I find the unit is very easy to use,The AVIC-S1 GPS itself is very accurate,are very inexpensive and can be taken from car to car walkin etc.. It comes with a handy suction cup holder and car charger.
