Pioneer AVIC-F500BT Car GPS Receiver

The Bad: A little sluggish on the maps, routes chosen by GPS arent the best. AVI and MPEG playback slow, and can only handle around 450kb/sec data throughput. Text to speech voice is terrible.

The Good: Ipod interface. You can bypass the bad video throughput using your ipod video. The screen is very large and the map quality is also good. You can install a large SD card to store videos and MP3's.

This was a great price on a new un-opened Pioneer Avic F500 GPS. This was the best deal I found and I ended up buying 2. Now I have to buy a 3rd because my friends wanted the last 2 so bad I had to sell them.

I like the portable freedom, i just love pioneer design but small display and wires messing, this is not good for me !

Super functionality, e.g. very good GPS with clear voice commands to allow routing while driving. Rear camera quality good and tie-in to reverse gear for auto display a nice feature. Phone connects via bluetooth automatically when you get into car (assuming you have already set it up) and SD Music works very well. I loaded 783 songs representing our total CD collection and it is integrated into our 2004 Ford F150 Heritage radio/cd system. It mutes for incoming and outgoing calls as well as direction from old "you are exceeding the speed limit" Harvey that my wife likes. It took about two weeks of work to rewire into my older Ford truck. Used the Pioneer ND-G500 Amplifier/Gateway and had to cut off the supplied connectors and rewire using the all in one Ford Male and Female METRA connectors (GSXL 1998-2005 Ford). After all done, spent around $280 for a $1000 plus system. Love it but hard install. Hunkeydorey

I installed this reciever in tree cars and all works perfectly, works great the GPS (but if you're not in the USA, the GPS dont have the possibilities to include new maps for another country), the bluetooh works fine, you manage and make a calls in the device, you can to connect the ipod into the receiver.

At first the owners guide seemed somewhat disorganized and hard to navigate. Time and practice made it simpler. The unit functions well and as described. The editing of your current route is a little cumbersome, but perhaps with more practice, that too will seem less troublesome. The screen and displays are setup nicely and easily readable. I have a rearview camera (not pioneer) connected and the picture quality is good and navigating from the gps map screen to the camera screen is very easy.

Put it through paces on a trip to Tenn. and back to Mich. and route recalculations were good. You need to make sure that the calculated route is best for your situation though. I pulled a 30' trailer and one route was not the way I would have chosen. Don't depend on the gps alone, check maps!

Refurb GPS arrived as advertised. The devise comes with a lot of cables!It is bulkier than most units, but that works for me. The 2D is only oriented to the north at all times. The 3D screen is oriented always in the direction of travel. Make sure you update the maps (free download) at the Pioneer website. As with many maps, reality checks apply. I found several minor map errors so far, none which caused me any problems. Recalculates missed turns quickly. Plays mp3's well enough through its small speaker. Bluetooth connects to my phone for hands free receiving of calls. I would recommend this unit to a friend.

Onboard map outdated. Could not locate streets two-three years old. I had to purchase updates for another hundred bucks. Other than this, better than my HP RX5915 whose maps are outdated too.

This unit has a lot of great features. Mainly what caught my attention was the integrated iPod Control and Bluetooth functionality. These features work great. Another reason was the sleek design and large widescreen LCD. The actual GPS works very well too, but lacks some POI's (which can probably updated with the newest maps). The only feature that doesn't work like advertised is the Voice Control, I was never able to get it to work like it's supposed to. Also, using the AUX port creates a lot of noise through the speakers and the power output is not very strong. An additional breakout box can be purchased though to solve this problem. I purchased my unit factory refurbished. It came with all the accessories and supplies. The only downside was after about a month the unit died on me and I have to send it out for repair. Otherwise, I might have given it a better rating. If the voice control and power output was fixed along with update POI's this would be the perfect unit. If your planning on hard wiring this unit, I recommend taking it to a professional installer because there is a decent amount of wiring to be done.
