Ping iWedges were introduced in late 2006. They are cavity-back, cast clubs with a tuning port and come in even-numbered lofts from 48 - 60 degrees. They have square grooves and usually come with the popular CS-L lightweight steel shaft in Regular or Stiff flexes. (ZZ65 and AWT shafts are available for stronger players). Mine had Ping 703 grips.
Ping indicates that the design of the sole of the club is based on the very popular Eye2 from the late 1980's. This sole is slightly concave in the center which theoretically reduces drag on grass shots while retaining bounce for sand shots.
I play the 52, 56 and 60 in the summer and the 58 (replacing 56 and 60) in the winter. I have found them to be solid-performing, predictable clubs. The 52 is very effective for long bunker shots and the 60 is the best L wedge Ping has made since the ISI 61 of the late 1990s. I have found that they do indeed play much like the old Eye2 wedges in their feel at impact and in their results.
I recommend them highly.
