Ping Redwood Piper Putter

Recently Ping introduced the Redwood series of premium putters. Unlike previous Ping putters, which were cast out of stainless steel and a variety of alloys like Manganese Bronze and Beryllium Copper, the Redwood series putters are milled out of a single piece of bar-stock 303 Stainless Steel. The milling process results in a significant amount of wasted materials, hence the higher cost of production and cost to the consumer.
Redwoods are available in a satin silver and a black anodized finish. The black finish wears fairly quickly, most significantly on the sole (bottom) of the putter. The face (front) of the putter has circular mill marks (a series of concentric ridges). Unfortunately, the black coloring comes off the face fairly quickly as well.
I purchased the Piper and ZB models in black. I ended up using the Piper. I could not be happier. I did not believe there to be any difference between the expensive milled putters like the Redwoods or a Scotty Cameron and the traditional cast heads. But there most certainly is; you will feel the difference after the first few balls. The milled putters give immediate feedback on the quality of your stroke at impact and make a cast putter, even my old, floating-face Ping Anser, feel very dead.
I was wrong; there is a difference. Get you one of these.
