Movie Description Documentary filmmaker Jessica Yu (IN THE REALMS OF THE UNREAL) makes the transition from nonfiction to comedy with this indie laugher. Christopher "C-dub" Wang (played by the film's co-writer, Jimmy Tsai) imagines that he has a future as a basketball star, but an accident changes his life. His mother and brother, both renowned ping pong players, are injured in a car crash, and now it's up to C-dub to teach his mother's ping pong class.

"A race-based comedy with a mischievous, post-race sensibility, PING PONG PLAYA mines hip-hop comedy gold from the least gangsta context imaginable: the assimilated Chinese-Americans of suburban California." New York Times - Nathan Lee (09/05/2008)
"[A]n agreeably family-friendly film devoid of gooeyness....Like the game itself, the film's charm lies in its simplicity and zippy pace." Film Comment - Laura Kern (09/01/2008)
