About the Manufacturer
Engineer and inventor Karsten Solheim got his start as an engineer working for GE in Ithaca, New York. His passion for the game set him on a journey to create a better putter. At the time he thought he was simply building it for his own personal use, but in 1959, Karsten’s ongoing garage experiments yielded an innovative putter he called 1A design. This putter had very distinctive design qualities, among them, a unique tone at impact, a sound that would echo throughout the game for generations to come…“Ping.” The Anser putter began a long and proud history of truly innovative equipment design throughout Ping’s entire product line (ultimately resulting in over 400 patents) that has set Ping at the top of the list of golf design and manufacturing companies. The company is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Karsten Solheim has passed away and his son John has taken the helm.

    Heaven...

Recently sold my green dot ISI Stainless irons after 4 yr. As a tall player w' hdcp in teens I cannot believe I had been playing with standard lie and angle as long as I did; furthermore I do not forgive my HS golf coach or any decent golfer I've ever played with for not telling me to get fitted sooner, as I got taller and stronger. Like anything, live and learn. Three sets later and lots of BS excuses, it was time to pull out the video camera. How in the hail was I ever golfing by squatting 3 inches to reach the ball? They always say "you've got a nice swing" yet I knew I was better than my scorecard showed; those mishit 5 irons and 50 yard chips were not the yips; the clubs were the problem.

It was like night and day, the first week with these new used ISIs. Fit for the tall (or short) guys. Like "Lord, thank you". You will notice the same, especially w' wedges. Man, to get within 10 feet from 150 yd. in...your buddies, and those singles who join your threesome all say "nice shot" and you put up your hand like Phil, like you've been doing it forever. And that warm and fuzzy inside, knowing you could do it...felt damn good.

The clubs; impressive and technological-looking to non-golfers, but kinda clanky to better players (big and goofy, like oversize tennis rackets looked when they first came out--remember the Prince Pro Aluminum...damn Jack Kramer was mad that day). The offset is forgiving, and the sweet spot is generous. I had seen lots of grandpas using ISIs; however, results do not lie, and you will find few clubs that hit as smooth and consistent as these. Why try and 'work' the ball when you hit straight and long every time? If there's no need to go around a tree, take aim and fire, babee! I did the homework and got it right (the internet kicks arse). Do your homework as I do mine. You won't regret it.

Then there was the visiting ping rep at local course. He's great, gets paid to watch other people golf. He was great last month...he put on the tape on the bottom of my favorite club, watched me hit mine, and gave me one he wanted me to hit instead. He now says I need to go two more degrees up. I tell you, live and learn. So now it's time to get something to get into single digits, bent, shafted and gripped to my specs and a proper fitting; my clubs aren't it anymore...you hate to break up, but sometimes you get restless, like life.

ISIs are great for beginners who want to enjoy golf, not win tournaments. You don't need to swing hard, and you can miss sometimes, and you will still like the results. If you play golf (and I don't mean you tell people you play, but have no idea what walking in my line means), and get mad for shooting 100 because you think it's your swing, do this...get some ISIs (or any ping, for that matter) with proper color coding for height, get some rifle shafts in them, and dedicate yourself to a driving range once in awhile. Who cares if you don't win longest drive; you might still take the closest to the pin! And you'll enjoy the game again.

PING ISI W/ UST TOUR WEIGHT GRAPHITE

LET ME START BY SAYING I HAVE HAD THIS SET FOR 9 YEARS. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL OTHER SETS OF IRONS, AND ALWAYS FOUND MY WAY BACK TO MY PINGS. THE HEADS ARE THE PERFECT SIZE AND JUST ENOUGH OFFSET TO KEEP MY SHOTS GOING STRAIGHT. I RECENTLY RESHAFTED THEM WITH UST TOUR WEIGHT GRAPHITE SHAFTS(JZ-65 STEEL CUSHIN, ORIGINALLY)TO GET JUST A FEW EXTRA YARDS OUT OF MY COMPACT SWING. WOW! THE ONLY SET OF CLUBS I WOULD TRADE THEM FOR IS A NEW SET OF ISI'S.
