Heaven...

Recently sold my green dot ISI Stainless irons after 4 yr. As a tall player w' hdcp in teens I cannot believe I had been playing with standard lie and angle as long as I did; furthermore I do not forgive my HS golf coach or any decent golfer I've ever played with for not telling me to get fitted sooner, as I got taller and stronger. Like anything, live and learn. Three sets later and lots of BS excuses, it was time to pull out the video camera. How in the hail was I ever golfing by squatting 3 inches to reach the ball? They always say "you've got a nice swing" yet I knew I was better than my scorecard showed; those mishit 5 irons and 50 yard chips were not the yips; the clubs were the problem.

It was like night and day, the first week with these new used ISIs. Fit for the tall (or short) guys. Like "Lord, thank you". You will notice the same, especially w' wedges. Man, to get within 10 feet from 150 yd. in...your buddies, and those singles who join your threesome all say "nice shot" and you put up your hand like Phil, like you've been doing it forever. And that warm and fuzzy inside, knowing you could do it...felt damn good.

The clubs; impressive and technological-looking to non-golfers, but kinda clanky to better players (big and goofy, like oversize tennis rackets looked when they first came out--remember the Prince Pro Aluminum...damn Jack Kramer was mad that day). The offset is forgiving, and the sweet spot is generous. I had seen lots of grandpas using ISIs; however, results do not lie, and you will find few clubs that hit as smooth and consistent as these. Why try and 'work' the ball when you hit straight and long every time? If there's no need to go around a tree, take aim and fire, babee! I did the homework and got it right (the internet kicks arse). Do your homework as I do mine. You won't regret it.

Then there was the visiting ping rep at local course. He's great, gets paid to watch other people golf. He was great last month...he put on the tape on the bottom of my favorite club, watched me hit mine, and gave me one he wanted me to hit instead. He now says I need to go two more degrees up. I tell you, live and learn. So now it's time to get something to get into single digits, bent, shafted and gripped to my specs and a proper fitting; my clubs aren't it anymore...you hate to break up, but sometimes you get restless, like life.

ISIs are great for beginners who want to enjoy golf, not win tournaments. You don't need to swing hard, and you can miss sometimes, and you will still like the results. If you play golf (and I don't mean you tell people you play, but have no idea what walking in my line means), and get mad for shooting 100 because you think it's your swing, do this...get some ISIs (or any ping, for that matter) with proper color coding for height, get some rifle shafts in them, and dedicate yourself to a driving range once in awhile. Who cares if you don't win longest drive; you might still take the closest to the pin! And you'll enjoy the game again.

PING ISI W/ UST TOUR WEIGHT GRAPHITE

LET ME START BY SAYING I HAVE HAD THIS SET FOR 9 YEARS. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL OTHER SETS OF IRONS, AND ALWAYS FOUND MY WAY BACK TO MY PINGS. THE HEADS ARE THE PERFECT SIZE AND JUST ENOUGH OFFSET TO KEEP MY SHOTS GOING STRAIGHT. I RECENTLY RESHAFTED THEM WITH UST TOUR WEIGHT GRAPHITE SHAFTS(JZ-65 STEEL CUSHIN, ORIGINALLY)TO GET JUST A FEW EXTRA YARDS OUT OF MY COMPACT SWING. WOW! THE ONLY SET OF CLUBS I WOULD TRADE THEM FOR IS A NEW SET OF ISI'S.

Review for Ping ISI S Irons with Senior Flex Shafts
Review created: 06/08/06(updated 01/01/10)

I was looking for a set of Ping ISI irons and discovered them on E-bay. The feedback of the seller was great and I decided to take a chance on the "Mint" description of the irons. Well, indeed the irons were in mint condition and I was fortunate to outbid the other folks interested. I also got these irons at a very low price for such a fine set. I was looking for irons with senior shafts on the advice of a younger salesman at a local golf shop. Well, after the ego blow of realizing that I perhaps did need the senior shaft, being at a relatively young age (52), but having a shoulder rebuild and losing a fair amount of back swing and swing speed, I was determined, at least, to try a set with the senior shafts. I discovered, to my astonishment, that I could hit the ball farther with accuracy and that I could work the ball left to right and right to left with ease. The clubs were in excellent shape, and even though the grips were original, they were not as tacky as they were when new, due to age. I replaced the grips and have never played better. I contacted the seller and discovered the irons were owned by an older gentleman in his eighties. He played the clubs in the late 1990's. I don't know the fate of the older man but I think of him often when I play the irons. I sense that he willed the clubs to perform well for the next owner. I will not dwell on that thought, but I will try to live up to his expectations. You just never know! These irons are a little older, but I am old school, and I prefer these irons over all the fancy, high tech, plastic adjustable inserts, scientific weight distribution and hollow cavities of today's irons. These are just metal and are one solid piece from a mold. They might be the last of their kind. I will enjoy these clubs for years to come. All in all, I am extremely happy with my purchase from E-bay and I only hope that other E-bayers will have similar luck with their finds from e-bay as I did. Thanks very much for the chance to share my review. Fairways and Greens, bobzon1 (Bob)

Ping ISI s or Nickel Irons

Have played these irons for 7 years, and collect BENI an BECU sets. Have tried (or owned) every other PING iron manufactured to date, and these are the best. An a +1 handicap - but don't let that fool you. These are easy and forgiving to hit - and accurate. These are a players club that anyone can use.

Ping ISI - S Irons with graphite shafts - Orange Dot
Review created: 07/17/08

I have consistently shot in the mid to upper 90's for years. Occasionally I might should low 40's because of a decent short game, but my iron shotmaking has been poor.

These clubs are the single best investment I've made in golf in the past 20 years. They fit much better, and they have almost eliminated my draw/hook that has plagued my irons for years.

You can still mishit a ball with these clubs. I struggled to hit the 4 iron, but was able to hit 5-Wedge irons the first time at the range.

Initially, I was a little worried about buying the irons, but trusted my faith in Ping and having the clubs fitted. Once my son is old enough, I will buy him a similar set. There is no reason not to play with good irons when they are this affordable.

  Buying used iron sets.

The set was just as advertised, all of the aerial #' matched and they were in good condition. The only negative was that the set was not stiff but senior flex. While the seller did not determine that, I did easiluy by calling Ping & presenting the serial #. While some shafts can be changed without ping knowing about it, if fact these were not.I bought them after ascertaining the most information that I could so I was a s well informed as I could be.

Clubs are very nice. Just what I was looking for. Now my golf game (or lack of one) is a function of the operator, not the tools.

  Great Clubs
Review created: 07/06/09

If you are a tall man and have been hitting standard length clubs, you owe it to your game to go to your local golf super store and go through the Ping fitting. It's free and they will help you identify the correct length and lie you SHOULD be playing. Then just leave the store, come to Ebay and get it for half the price!
In my case, I bought the ISI older models for a third of the cost of the new G10's. I needed the "white dot" (3 degrees upright, 1/2" longer)and found them here on Ebay.
These Ping clubs I purchased are super easy to hit (even the 3 iron) and have solved the constant hitting left of target with my old standard clubs. They are a little heavier than my old clubs, but feel very solid at contact. The first time I hit them at the range, the were 10 yards longer and a whole lot more accurate than my Lynx MTX set. I have played them several times and the difference saved an average of 6 strokes so far. The ability to use my 3 iron and hit it straight helped me birdy a long par three that I previously had to hit a metal wood and hope it went somewhere close.
Do yourself a favor, get fitted and get the right clubs for your size. You wont regret it.

They are PINGS! What else can i say? If your not using PINGS, your not playing your best or using the best. It doesnt matter if you are using PINGS that are 20 years old or the newest thing out, you can tell the difference from them and any other club out there. Best irons out there!

  IST Blue Dot Irons
Review created: 12/20/08

I had been looking for a set of PING Irons that I could fall in love with -eg like the early Pings. After trying the G2's, IS, & IS+ - I began to wonder wether Ping had lost their magic or I was getting old.
Anyway, I saw the IST set in the right color code & bought them at a reasonable price.

It looks like these are going to be close to my early Pings. It is a little early to tell but my gut tells me all will be right. I will report back in a few months.
Are all golfers crazy or does it just seem that way.
