Ping G2s are easy to hit well

These clubs can be great for you if you buy the right ones fit for you. Ping helps to make this easier, especially for you folks buying on Ebay, and not in a store. I did the static fit on Ping.com and previously had a local professional fit me dynamically. Because of this, I found the perfect match for me and I'm not afraid to buy them online. The website even tells you which shaft to go with if you know how far you typically hit your 6 iron. I found that by working on tempo and not trying to kill the ball, I am able to gain considerable distance and accuracy over my old irons (Titleist DCI 990) just by using these clubs and slowing it down a bit.

When you buy the proper length and lie, you will be amazed at how much better you strike the ball.

My point is this; get a solid fitting in before you buy any irons. They might be a good deal, but there is a reason Ping fits you to the club.

About the Ping irons. These irons play well. I found it easy to shape shots from right to left. It was a bit more difficult left to right, but I've never been able to do that well anyhow. Because I was able to let the club hit the ball and control my tempo better, the ball flight is consistent and the carry is, too. My accuracy has increased dramatically, as well. Especially from the 8 iron down to the pitching wedge. The shot trajectory is much higher and softer landing with these and I don't get a lot of roll. Again, especially from the 8 iron down.

I attribute a lot of the improvements to the change in my tempo, but I give the Pings the credit for helping me change the tempo of my swing and really feel what I am doing with the shot more than that of other irons I have hit. Mishits are not so bad either. You really have to shank the ball or leave the clubface open to mess a shot up with these.

Expect to pay more for the various graphite shafts. The Ping custom WRX clubs are usually more as well. If you find a set of Pingss with a matching sand wedge, jump on them because the sand wedges are hard to find individually.

A lot of times, the owners name has been applied to the club. I found you can get this off easily with acetone and light sandpaper if it is screened in and not etched. You might ask the seller when this is listed this way.

In addition, if you are not very good at the long irons (2,3, and 4) you may want to look at the G5 hybrids. I have them too. If you hit the ball hard, but typically slice or hook, the hybrids dramatically reduce the mishit effect.

Be careful when bidding. There are some demo clubs floating around out there. Check with the seller for serial numbers as all Ping consumer clubs have them. Pay attention to feedback scores. This is Ebay's barometer of service. I swear by the feedback system.

I hope you found this info helpful.

Have you ever gone out to the course, posted up with an iron, and had a feeling even before you hit it that it was going to be a great shot? That is what these clubs do. They almost make you feel like you are cheating when you have them in hand. Now, I would not give someone their money back if they where betting with you out there, but it might make you think about it!!!

I just got a new set of G2's from ebay. I have played 5 rounds with them and could not enjoy them any more. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the HL 3 and 4 irons, but after hitting them I was extremely happy I made this purchase.

Ping G2 Iron set & Ping G2 HL WOW !!!!!!!!!!!

I have been hitting Ping golf clubs for over 30 years now. This is my 4th set of Ping irons and they are the best. They remind me a lot of my old set of Ping Zing 2 irons. This is by far the best set of irons Ping has ever built. I would highly recommend this set to any golfer. I was a 20 handicap when I bought these clubs a year ago. I am now a 15 handicap and hitting the ball further and straighter than I ever have.

I would recommend these clubs to any golfer no matter what your skill level.

The extremely popular PING G2 model
G2 — with a wide sole and low center of gravity positioned away from the face, it provided higher launching, more forgiving results.
G2 HL — the wide sole and extreme perimeter weighting of these long irons allowed golfers to hit longer, higher, softer-landing shots.

  Ping G2 Irons...
Review created: 07/03/06

4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I have played golf for 10 years. That's 10 years with the wrong clubs! I have always just adapted to the standard length and lie clubs rather than have clubs fitted to my 6'6 frame. I never realized how much that hurt my golf game until I went to ping.com and found out I needed clubs as far from standard as ping makes. I was fitted with ping maroon dot +1 1/2" which I bought on ebay for a great price. This has been the best golf purchase I have ever made! I'm not sure if it's the clubs are that good or it's the fact that they actually fit my swing. I guess it's a combonation of both. I love these G2's and they have already shaved strokes from my game. I used to shoot mid 90's now I'm in the 80's and getting better and more confident everytime out. If you are not the standard size player don't play standard sized clubs. You'll be happy you made the investment. I know I am.

  Great clubs

I bought these clubs 3 weeks ago and I can't begin to tell you how great they are. This set of irons has made a great improvement in my game. The lower irons (3,4,5) are so forgiving with ball flight. If your a person who enjoys playing golf but still needs some help/forgiveness these are the clubs for you.

These clubs are a must have

If you are looking for a great club then I highly recommend Ping's G2 irons. I have had Callaway, Titleist and Cobra clubs and think these are the easiest most forgiving clubs around. I have always like the G2's style and color scheme and that is why I went with these instead of the G10's. In addition, I would get the Ping M/B wedges. They are the easiest most consistent wedge I have hit yet.

  Ping G2 Irons = Consistency
Review created: 03/06/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

First of all, I will say this about Ping Irons. They are consistent which is more than you can say about other irons. This particular model (G2) is about the best Ping Irons I've came across and I've played with literally over 100 sets of Irons in my days just demoing them.

Personally, I purchased a set of irons that included the 5I thru LW. 9 Irons total and I couldn't be happier with them. I usually bounce around between sets of irons regularly but these have stayed in my bag for an entire golf season and will probably last through this one as well which is a major accomplishment.

Now onto how the Irons play:
All of my Irons are equipped with Ping JZ-65 Stiff Steel Shafts and are Blue Dot with standard Loft.

The 5 Iron is very easy to hit. Just a tad of an offset which makes it easier to square to ball on your downswing. I consistently carry my 5 Iron around 195-205 yards.

The 6 Iron is also easy to hit. Hardly any noticeable offset in this club but still easy to hit for a mid-iron. I usually hit my 6 Iron around 180-185 yards.

The 7 Iron is probably the second best Iron in my set. Very nice trajectory and plenty of bite on the greens from 165 and in. I can easily work this iron and hit a nice knock down or step it up and hit a nice high draw into the green. I usually mark the 7 Iron of every set as the benchmark. The G2 7 Iron is one of the best if not the best I've played with. Its consistency, forgiveness and playability make you a better golfer.

To be honest, I don't hit my 8 Iron much in rounds but I'm consistent with it on the range. I would rather hit a knock down or 3/4 shot with my 7 Iron.

The 9 Iron is another nice addition to the set but I would rank it as the worst Iron in my set as well. I've hit some ballooners with this club as well as some fatties which only happens with this iron for some reason. I generally don't hit it much on the course as I would rather amp my PW than hit my 9I.

The PW is the best iron in this set hands down, at least for me. I am deadly from 120 and in with my PW. You can do it all with this club. High, soft landings to low darts to fades to draws. I can amp my PW and hit it consistently between 135-140, but prefer to swing smooth and get 120 or so. I even chip with my PW at times and I've always used a 60* wedge around the green but I can get a good bite or check-up with my PW. If you play at a course that's Driver-Wedge on several holes, you'll have a hard time finding a better PW than this one, trust me, I would know.

The 52* UW or Gap Wedge is a nice addition to the set. It doesn't hit those nice high shots like the PW, but its still consistent.

The 56* SW is also consistent with a nice high ball flight and plenty of spin around the greens.

The 60* LW is great from 50 or so in and around the greens. I can hit a flop or push my hands forward and hit a hard check-up with this iron and feel comfortable doing either. Probably the 3rd best Iron in the set in my opinion.

There you have it, my review of the Ping G2 Iron set. I would recommend going to Ping's website and getting a static fit to make sure your purchasing the right set of Ping's, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better set than this one. The G2's easily beat out the S59's and the G5's for me. All were consistent, but the G2's gave me more forgiveness when I needed it. I went from a 8.5 handicap to a 4.5 handicap with these Irons.

  Simply solid!
Review created: 01/08/07
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The most solid set of clubs I've ever played, period! Provides you with everything you would want in a club, no matter your skill level. High handicappers benefit from the solid feel of well-struck shots and forgiveness for those not so well struck. Accomplished players have workability capabilities (high, low, fade, draw, etc) with the craftmanship that has sustained Ping's popularity throught the years.

I personally upgraded from the Eye 2's, which were over 20 years old, but still played very well. My game was at the poing where I was wanting work the ball more, however my ball striking is not a point where I could justify leaping into the forged market. Having played Ping clubs for a number of years, I was very familiar with their quality. These club have proven to be a great fit for my game and have been very pleased with the results.

Before making any purchase, get fitted for what lie angle and shaft would best suit you.

Also.....check out the G2 drivers too, I'm just as pleased with it as I am my irons!!!!!

These are my 4th set in a 20+ year golfing career. I always wanted Pings and was talked out of it 3 times! Spalding, Hogan Egde, and Titleist can not hold up to the G2s. Straighter and longer combined with exceptional feel, builds up tremendous confidence. My irons used to be my weakist link, hitting on average of 5 GIR. Now I am 9 or better with my misses just on the fringe! Get fitted and try them on a range, just like I did. Just yesterday we were facing a 2 club wind, I have a slower swing speed, faced with a 100 yard shot which would normally be a nine in a 2 club wind, I ended up 10 yards over the green!! Long and straight.

Great clubs for the average golfer
Review created: 08/13/07

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I've been using the Ping Eye 2 Copper Berilym clubs for years and finally upgraded to the G2 Blue dot, steel stiff shafts. I went to the driving range and tried out the G5 and Rapture along with the G2 and found no difference between the three. So I saved myself some money and bought a used set of the G2. I hit them on average 10-15 yards longer than my old Ping Eye 2's. They are a little more offset which causes me to pull the shot a little more, but I'm learning to control that. I would greatly recommend these clubs to the average golfer who is using knock off or older type equipment. I'm a 9 handicapper and these clubs have made the game a lot more easier for me as I am using a least one club lower on every shot, which gives you a lot more confidence in the shot execution.

Thoroughly enjoyed these clubs. They are very forgiving, and go very far even when I miss the sweet spot. Very little shock felt when there is contact with the ground, as well as the ball.

The full set of Ping G2 Irons compliment my Ping G2 Driver and 3-5-7 woods. I can find nothing wrong with the Ping G2 Irons. The feel after striking the ball is solid and the ball goes long and straight. I have played with other brands but I like the Ping G2 irons the best. By shopping on Ebay I can pick from a large selection of different brand clubs and prices without leaving my computer and have the items delivered to my door in just a few days.

Ping G2 Iron set, golf clubs
Review created: 12/04/08

I currently have a set of these bought a few years ago. I wanted another set of them for our second home so that I don't have to take my favorite clubs back and forth! I had been struggling with an older set (Pre-Ping) and was frustrated on the golf courses since I KNEW I could do better! Someone suggested e-bay and I put my toe in the water (never bought on e-bay until that week!) and went hog wild and managed to put together a great full set of clubs (including my beloved Ping irons) and a great golf bag for FAR LESS than I had paid for my original Pings! Played with my "new set" and it feels so familiar that I took over a dozen strokes off my game in SC that I had played previously with my old back-up set!

I bought a used set of white dot G2 irons. I have only used them approximately 4 times. I like the forgivness but find the distance shorter than my old set of Wilson Distance II irons. No big deal as when the others are using a 6 and spraying it all over and I come in with a great shot using a 5 iron the kidding seems to stop. I like them and when I get the money to order new clubs, it probably will be pings.

  Third set is the best!!!!!
Review created: 12/30/07

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is the third set of Pings I've owned in 35 years of playing. The original Eye's were excellent, the Zings were awesome but these G2's are unbelievable. I've had to put my ego aside and switch to a lighter shaft because of loosing swing speed. Found the perfect match of G2's (black dots-CS lights(stiff)and have now played 8 rounds with solid results. Like a young kid in a candy store. I had the opportunity to go to a driving range with a shag bag and walked off the actual yardage. The G2's were 7-8 yards longer that the Zings I had been playing for the past 13 years with less effort. I would like to upgrade to the new G-10's but can't see investing in something that is probably not going to perform any better than these clubs.
