Ping G10 Driver Golf Club

I have used a TaylorMade 460 Burner 9.5 degree driver for over three years. It has a more conventional appearance than most high MOI drivers. It is long and straight, but not much on sound effects. I love my Burner, but I am always in pursuit of newer, better technology (in keeping with my mantra).

Recently, I re-read a golf magazine club review article that announced its testers found the Ping G10 was longer than the Burner and the other drivers. (Admittedly, I was so satisfied with my Burner, I didn't even pay attention the first time.) I decided to try one. I bought a G10 9 degree driver with a Grafalloy Pro-Lite stiff shaft on eBay.

Like a child at Christmas (Hanukkah, Kwanza, or whatever you celebrate), I couldn't wait to go to the course to try it out. I immediately noticed a lower, more boring trajectory resulting in longer drives. I also noticed the G10 produces an awesome "POW" or "BANG" when you make center contact. Love that sound! Some of my playing partners have hit my G10 and noticed longer drives, even off the toe and heel. It is easy to work the ball, too. Unlike the 460 Burner, the G10 is not quite as forgiving and, hence, a better player's club, at least with the Pro-Lite shaft.

The G10 is very aesthetically pleasing because of its more conventional club head shape. In fact, you have to look closely to notice the club head is slightly longer than the G5. The crown has the ever-present Ping "crescent" that aids alignment. The head cover is a kicking black, grey and burnt orange combination. In a word, SWEET! It is longer than the G5 and easier to hit straight down fairways. I never tried the Rapture because I suffered PTSD after my experience with the Callaway C4 composite.

I still love my 460 Burner and I still play it regularly, especially if the fairways are wet and/or the winds are non-existent. However, if the fairways are hard or the winds are pushing things around, I grab my G10. Sometimes, I hit my G10 just because I love that sound.

If you haven't hit the Ping G10 driver, I urge you to at least hit it. With a factory-installed shaft, it is probably as forgiving as the Burner and looks more like a player's club. Remember, once you hear the sound of the G10, you may never want to take it out of your bag. At least, you won't get that sound out of your head anytime soon. A definite keeper!

(Because most factory-installed shafts and grips are so cheap, I highly recommend you get fitted for a custom shaft and grip to maximum your results. Next to the clubhead, there is NOTHING that has more effect on your distance and carry than the club shaft. It is the ENGINE that drives the car.)

The new Ping G10 Driver is the simply the best Driver I have ever owned. I loved my G5 Driver, but the G10 is a step forward. I have the 10.5 degree regular flex model, standard length. The distance is wonderful with a nice high carry. Probably 15-25 yds longer than my G5 model. Ping has a winner with this club.

This club was recommended to me by the club fitters at Cool Clubs in Scottsdale AZ. I spent about 90 minutes hitting many brands of clubs including my own Mizuno MP500. For my particular swing speed (88-90mph), launch angle, smash factor, etc. the G10 driver performed the best. After a quick EBay auction, I was the owner of a very nice used Ping G10 driver with the stock 129 Reg. graphite shaft. An interesting side note is that the demo club at Cool Clubs had an upgraded Diamana Blue Board shaft (approx $300.00). My initial plan was to replace the stock shaft with an upgrade. Surprisingly the stock shaft is performing as well or better than the demo in side by side tests. The G10 is light, swings very easily and you don't feel like you have to reach for a little extra to get more distance. Off center shots (we rarely hit those) are long and usually in play. I am finding the fairway much more often and it a pleasure playing golf using a driver and short iron again. From my experience, the G10 is a winner.

This is an excellant Driver, just make sure you have the correct shaft. I tend to hit a very high ball, but the G10 / PL Red combo is just perfect. Launch is 14-15 degrees and it is very long. Looks great at address, more like a classic Driver.

This club is fantastic! I am a 15 year old that has roughly a 100-120 mph swing speed. I used this club at a local Austads and my first 10 hits were between 270-295 yards!! All of them were within a radius of 20 feet. I have a tendency to slice the ball. But this club eliminated that slice completely!! It is very forgiving and when you hit the ball square it will explode off of the club. Well worth the money!!

I've had Cobra and Callaway Hybrids in my bag over the last few years. I called my old Hybrids "death" clubs because I got into trouble with them more than I would have liked to. The new Ping Hybrids renewed my faith in hybrid clubs. I now have the 15 and 21 degree models. I don't carry a 3 wood anymore, because these hybrids hit good off of the tee, the fairway and out of the rough. Thanks Ping!!!!!

This is a fine golf club, with current technology. It incorporates the forgiving technology found in most current drivers. Most preferences are personal. I like the look and feel of the Ping G10. The bottom line is that you still have to make a good swing to achieve good results.

I have 12 draw in same flex - wanted to try without draw - better for my swing - too many shots drawing too much. I could not fade the ball with the draw head which is really for a slicer. This head shape allows you to shape the ball better. The shaft is a little firmer than most senior shafts and the head design is fairly forgiving. There may be better drivers on the market, but this is easy to play.

This driver is so easy to hit!!!! The driver is very forgiving and hits longer than any other driver I've hit. This club had to have added 20 yards onto my drive right off the bat!!!

This driver is the bomb!! I hit the ball great every time off the tee. It helps alot to have a great driver makes the game more interresting!!

I absolutly love my Ping G10 10.5* Stiff flex driver!! It is simply the best driver i have ever hit in my life! I bought mine for $239!! I used it at a local Austads, and loved it!! I have about a 100-130 mph swing speed, so i definatly needed the stiff flex! I was lucky enough to find a demo at Austads so i used it and i hit an average of 280 yards!! A big improvement from my previous driver!! It has a larger than normal sweet spot so it is easier to hit it solid!! I love the aiming symbol it is very easy to use. I love the orange of the shaft and head. The ping grip it very nice it stays grippy even when wet! The club head is just the right size too not too big and not to small! Its just plain great!

Long and forgiving. Great feel and sound. The general shape and color of the crown is pretty basic, but the orange coloring on the bottom is nice. Great club.

I read the Golf Digest review and was all pumped up about ordering the Ping G10... To my surprise the club did not perform as it was described... I lost distance and for some reason it seemed that every drive had a slight push to the right compared to the Taylormade Tour Burner... I am not sure if it was due to the longer shaft put in the club but for me it just did not set up nice or feel comfortable... As for looks the orange was fine and the moon shape alignment did not distract... I could not tell a major difference between it and the Ping Rapture... My friend that is an avid Ping guy hit it and duck hooked every shot compared to his Ping Rapture... Neither one of us were impressed with the G10... I have since went back to my Tour Burner.

Only advise I would give is to make sure you go and demo a club before purchase.

Update: (August 09)

After playing this club off and on for the last year, I still do not hit it as well as I would like... I was able to change my swing enough to have a slight draw... I also found out that the stock shaft was not a good fit for my swing and upgraded to my favorite shaft... I also had the new shaft installed at 44 3/4" for better control... I can tell you that when the G10 is hit on the sweet spot it peforms just as well as all of the other drivers on the market... The problem I have with the G10 is with forgiveness... Off center hits have a major loss in distance and direction... Unlike the Burner, the G10 is more of a player's club... It is ideal for a 9 or lower handicap that can hit the sweet spot on a consistent basis and is able to work the ball left and right.

Rated as a ten, which according to their ad means never been hit, why did it have the clear tape on the face for demoing clubs. Club seems fine though.

I won a Ping G10 Driver Golf Club on ebay for a great price. It is how I got my entire set of clubs. The Driver I used for the first time this past Sunday and I love it.

The Ping Drivers are in my mind the best in the world. I now own a G5 and G10 driver. The feel on the ball on the drive is fanstastic.

One of the best money can buy. Easy to use have found myself in the fairway more of the time. With this club it is easy to shave of two to three stokes from a round with the distance.

Long but controllable. Few amazing but disapointing results from this club that I found with Taylor Made and Cleveland. Similar to 907D2 or 909D2. Make sure you get fit with proper shaft. Pro Launch Red in Regular is similar to Stiff from other manufacturers.

I finally got to hit the Ping G 10 driver last week as I've had back problems. It was very easy to hit and especially easy on my back with the UST Pro Forcee V2 High Launch shaft that came on it. I hit it fairly high and pretty long considering I've not hit a golf ball since Oct 08. Great club as all Ping clubs usually are. Recommend highly.
