About the Manufacturer
Engineer and inventor Karsten Solheim got his start as an engineer working for GE in Ithaca, New York. His passion for the game set him on a journey to create a better putter. At the time he thought he was simply building it for his own personal use, but in 1959, Karsten’s ongoing garage experiments yielded an innovative putter he called 1A design. This putter had very distinctive design qualities, among them, a unique tone at impact, a sound that would echo throughout the game for generations to come…“Ping.” The Anser putter began a long and proud history of truly innovative equipment design throughout Ping’s entire product line (ultimately resulting in over 400 patents) that has set Ping at the top of the list of golf design and manufacturing companies. The company is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Karsten Solheim has passed away and his son John has taken the helm.

You just can't go wrong with a Ping Anser putter. It's possibly most duplicated putter design ever! The classic heel toe weighting gives these putters excellent balance, feel and feedback. The plumber's neck promotes confidence at address. The putter head is very solid and it gets the ball rolling pretty quickly. You can pick up a nice Ping Anser on EBAY for around $60-$100, depending on the condition and model of the putter. These putters were primarily made in manganese bronze, but you can pick them up in BeNi Nickel and Beryllium Copper as well. You'll be paying a bit more for the latter two materials, as they are no longer manufactured. The bronze and the copper, over time, will darken into a classic patina color. It really gives the putter a classic look. The nickel will provide more putter head weight. When looking for one on EBAY, make sure the seller is willing to provide clear pictures of the putter and a clear description in their listing. It's very difficult to find an older Anser that's mint or new. A Ping Anser in pretty good condition, with minor bag wear and such, will still have plenty of great putts left in it. You'll want to stay away from major nicks and dings. Make sure the face, top line and shaft are in pretty good condition and you'll be good to go. If you have to replace a grip, that's not so bad. Many sellers re-grip before they sell their putters, that would be considered a nice bonus. Also, protect your investment and purchase a putter cover as well. It's money well spent. Don't wait any longer and pick up one of these fine classic putters on EBAY today. Even if you don't use the putter on a regular basis, you can pass it on to your children and grand children. In my opinion, this is a classic design that will always stand the test of time!

Many different types of this same putter but is most definately the most influential putter ever made. It has been copied by most every company and has been used by many proffesionals to win. Dont be confused by the high prices of the Cameron Newport, its a straight up copy of this great putter.
