Ping helps to make this easier, especially for you folks buying on Ebay, and not in a store. I did the static fit on Ping.com and previously had a local professional fit me dynamically. Because of this, I found the perfect match for me and I'm not afraid to buy them online. The website even tells you which shaft to go with if you know how far you typically hit your 6 iron. I found that by working on tempo and not trying to kill the ball, I am able to gain considerable distance and accuracy over my old irons (Titleist DCI 990) just by using these clubs and slowing it down a bit. When you buy the proper length and lie, you will be amazed at how much better you strike the ball. My point is this; get a solid fitting in before you buy any irons. They might be a good deal, but there is a reason Ping fits you to the club. About the Ping irons. These irons play well. I found it easy to shape shots from right to left. It was a bit more difficult left to right, but I've never been able to do that well anyhow. Because I was able to let the club hit the ball and control my tempo better, the ball flight is consistent and the carry is, too. My accuracy has increased dramatically, as well. Especially from the 8 iron down to the pitching wedge. The shot trajectory is much higher and softer landing with these and I don't get a lot of roll. Again, especially from the 8 iron down. I attribute a lot of the improvements to the change in my tempo, but I give the Pings the credit for helping me change the tempo of my swing and really feel what I am doing with the shot more than that of other irons I have hit. Mishits are not so bad either. You really have to shank the ball or leave the clubface open to mess a shot up with these. Expect to pay more for the various graphite shafts. The Ping custom WRX clubs are usually more as well. If you find a set of Pingss with a matching sand wedge, jump on them because the sand wedges are hard to find individually. A lot of times, the owners name has been applied to the club. I found you can get this off easily with acetone and light sandpaper if it is screened in and not etched. You might ask the seller when this is listed this way. In addition, if you are not very good at the long irons (2,3, and 4) you may want to look at the G5 hybrids. I have them too. If you hit the ball hard, but typically slice or hook, the hybrids dramatically reduce the mishit effect. Be careful when bidding. There are some demo clubs floating around out there. Check with the seller for serial numbers as all Ping consumer clubs have them. Pay attention to feedback scores. This is Ebay's barometer of service. I swear by the feedback system. I hope you found this info helpful. Review ID: 10000000001601189 Was this review helpful? Report this review 33 of 33 people found this review helpful. The first thing you should know is I am or was a 15-18 handicapper. I have a friend who is a scratch golfer who has been on my back for years to buy Ping's. For the last six years I played Taylor Made Burner LCG's, I bought those new. If you are an average golfer, but think you are going to start playing on a regular basis then by all means consider an investment in Ping irons. BUT, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! I waited 3.5 months before I made my investment in these irons. I also went to Ping.com and took their measurement test as well as getting fitted at my local pro shop. In both cases I measured for blue dot irons. I was a borderline stiff or regular flex, but the set I bought are regular flex and have the Cushin insert (to absorb vibration). Another key to buying Ping's is to make sure all the serial numbers match. If a seller won't provide the serial number, be very cautious. In all my dealings and negotiations I was always given the serial#. This way, you can check the history of the club(s) at the Ping Community (free service) and make sure the clubs you bid on or purchase are legit clubs. As far as the i3 O's they live up to every review I read prior to my purchase. I got very lucky, the set I bought was manufactured in 2001 and had very little wear and tear. In fact, the grips are still the original and still tacky. The seller was one of the best most informative sellers I have ever dealt with on ebay. She was selling these clubs for a friend. Like any new club(s) these take a bit of getting used to. However, after playing three rounds and struggling a bit I have now gotten very comfortable with these irons. When I set up and aim, my shots are going straight or within 10 yards left or right of my target. I was shooting in the mid to high 90's with my old clubs....and yes..even hit that magical century mark that sends us to the 19th hole for relief! I've now broken 90 my last two rounds and my best round was an 83 a few weeks ago. If you play golf you know that much of the game depends on practice. So, I do spend a lot of time at the range just working with each club. These clubs have a very good balance and you feel the club head through the entire swing. It almost at times seems bottom heavy. I have slowed my entire swing down and although I am not getting as much distance I am trading that for accuracy. I know in time I'll be able to swing harder and gain back the yards I've given up for the short term. The 5 thru 9 iron play flawless. I struggle a bit with the 3 and 4 but even when I blade a long iron I still get a straight shot. The set I bought are a 3 thru PW and all the serial #'s matched. The only thing I will do with these clubs is have them re-gripped...these will stay in my bag for many years. These clubs have truly turned my game from that of frustration to one of enjoyment...and yes, I still hit some sideways...but that is golf...stuff happens. I have been so pleased that I even bought a new Ping G5 Driver...I'm hooked on these clubs. I may have paid a bit more than some other bids for similar clubs (my cost with shipping was in the $400 range). However, if you can find a set that has low mileage and are a matching set grab them, you'll be smiling a lot more playing a game that I used to refer to as Jungle Polo! Good luck...and by the way..I do not work or have any affiliation with Ping...these clubs just work!!! Review ID: 10000000002299266 Was this review helpful? The golf clubs exceeded my expectations. I started with the wedge and went to the three iron. the lie of the clubs were perfect for me, no fade/slice. They are what I wanted and I purchased them at a reasonable price. The clubs do need to be re griped but that is no big deal I have grips at home. I am completely satisfied with my purchase and this seller did a great job of sending them quickly. Review ID: 10000000010450788 Was this review helpful? I pieced a set together about 5 years ago.I sent them to Ping and had them bent to standard(black dot).I suggest you spend the time and money to have them properly adjusted by Ping.I play less than 20 rounds per year and hit less than 3 buckets of balls at the range per year.Needless to say,I don't have the time to play as much as I would like.I am still a 14 handicap and break 80 a few times each year. The point I am making is "you can trust these irons".They are forgiving and provide consistent results. It may take a few rounds to get the feel of the i3's,but after you do,you know it will be there every time. Even badly hit shots turn out OK! Review ID: 10000000008781416 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 09/18/08 by: 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. These are my second set of clubs to replace my first ancient set. So far I really like these. Very forgiving heads for a slicer like me. I always liked Ping prodcuts and these are very good. The Optimal Size Ping i3 irons are the best irons I have personally ever owned. I was a 20 handicap and have been playing these clubs all summer and now I am averaging a 14 over par. If you are a better golfer, however, and want to work the ball more then I would say these clubs are probably not what you are looking for. Review ID: 10000000008015242 Was this review helpful? I would recommend either set for everyone. THESE CLUBS ARE VERY FORGIVING! Review ID: 10000000005935694 Was this review helpful? Report this review 2 of 2 people found this review helpful. Ping is the only club maker that makes the clubs for each individual and their clubs maintain value long after the models are discontinued. The clubs were for my son who is 6'8" and he needed a longer shaft and upright lie, with other clubs this would be a custom order but Ping makes this club off the shelf. The oversize is great for beginners to mid handicappers and is very forgiving. Review ID: 10000000004988709 Was this review helpful? Report this review 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. Don't know that I like the idea of giving out serial numbers for Pings. Unscrupulous members could use those to pawn off copies on unsuspecting members. It is a shame that you can't trust people anymore. Review ID: 10000000004874850 Was this review helpful? Report this review Ready to share your opinion with others? Write a Review |
