The Pineapple Story by Institute in Basic Youth Conflicts (1978, Book, Illustrated)

This story about the missionary really causes one to think about one's rights (right to get a promotion, right to have certain clothes, cars, houses, vacations etc) and how God wants us to turn over to him every area of our life for his keeping and care. Health, Plans, Jobs, Will, Money, Possessions, Dating, Activities, Friends, Opinions, Reputation and even Music. It illustrates how anger should be used as an alarm from God that we have a "right" that we have not yielded to God. We can use anger as a way of discovering our rights and how to transfer them to God thus dissolving the anger and improving our ministry with others. This is a book I plan to read often and teach to my children so they will know how to deal with anger, what it is and why they feel it. I believe this could go a long way in reducing violence if others could understand that we need to stop the thinking that we have all these rights in this world.

If you get this book for the kids - please get the DVD for adults. This is a very funny Christian story of a missionary who gets mad at those he is suppose to be ministering to. The jungle people steal continually and he tries everything he can think of to stop them from taking his things. As he retells what happened in the book (and DVD especially), you'll be laughing and laughing at the things they do. The missionary was totally exasperated with the people. I'll leave it to you to read how it ends. This is excellent for a Sunday school class, personal reading, and definitely for anyone wanting to go on the mission field.

I actually worked with the author for a time, and as far as I can tell he's a great guy with a good heart. However, his intimate involvement with a cult-like organization (IBLP) damages his credibility. Stay away from any/all IBLP publications.

This book had a positive impact on my life. I could clearly see myself on many of the pages. The author actually lived the experiences he writes about. You will look at all you own in a new light once you have read this little book. This book carries my highest recommendation.
