Pimsleur Chinese Cantonese (2001, Abridged, Compact Disc)

I have found the Pimsleur method for Cantonese to be effective for learning and retaining basic Cantonese words and phrases. I am currently on the 11th lesson and am excited see how much I will know after completing all 30 lessons. My husband is bilingual English/Cantonese and he can understand most of the Cantonese I learned from these CD's. I think the phrasing is fairly formal, but I figure I can work on conversational nuances after getting a grasp on the language. The first 8 lessons of this 30 lesson series are the same as the Pimsleur Quick and Simple Cantonese series, so if you plan on going past 8 lessons, I would recommend buying this series so as not to end up with duplicate lessons. Tips: you need to speak out loud and hear yourself in order for these lessons to work, so make sure you are in an appropriate place. Also, keep repeating the same lessons until you are able to recall most of the required phrases.
