Description Empire Interactive and Strangelite present STARSHIP TROOPERS, a first person shooter based on the hit science-fiction film STARSHIP TROOPERS, which in turn is based on a Robert Heinlein novel of the same name. The game puts players in the role of a soldier involved in the battle against an alien species. In STARSHIP TROOPERS, humanity finds itself in a war against the Klendathu, a bug like species that attacked earth. In the movie, humans took the battle to the Klendathu and captured one of their leaders. The game picks up five years after these events and reveals that the truce humans were hoping for didnt happen. Instead, the war against the Klendathu is still going strong, and players take on the role of one of the soldiers involved in it. As a member of the Marauder squad, gamers will have to complete missions and defeat enemies while accomplishing goals. The game is a first person shooter, so of course its filled with powerful weapons that allow players to blow their bug foes to tiny little bits. Players will want to find these powerful weapons quickly since they will be facing waves of enemies, often up to 15 at a time. Fortunately, other Marauder members or soldiers often arrive on the scene to help take down the enemy. STARSHIP TROOPERS creates an interesting look at what could have happened after the movie while providing a solid first person shooter adventure that sci-fi fans will enjoy.
Take control of the greatest empire on earth in CDV Software and Haemimonts GLORY OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE for the PC. This sim game puts players in control of Rome as a governor. While dealing with trade, planning, and the Black Death, players have to expand their city and make Rome into a global force. GLORY OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE is a great game for beginning sim players. It doesnt require any micromanagement, and resources are gathered almost automatically. The objectives of each mission are typically fairly easy to accomplish and center around building a specific number of structures while dealing with fires, plagues, defeating barbarians, or building a unique structure or two. For players who have never played a game like GLORY OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE before, these features make it the perfect place to get acquainted with the sim genre before they jump into some of the more complex city building games. The game includes three different modes: campaign, challenge, and free build. The campaign requires players to save Rome, while the challenge mode simply throws different challenges at gamers. Free build, of course, allows players to build a town as they see fit while dealing with disasters or not as they choose. GLORY OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE may prove to be a little too easy for seasoned sim gamers who have conquered the likes of CIVILIZATION IV or CAESAR III, but for beginning players, its the perfect introduction to the genre.
