I began reading this book the day after I received it and had a hard time putting it down. I found the author's creative take on the angelic/demonic spiritual realm intriguing. It has inspired me to pursue my prayer time with God more aggressively. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to read a suspense filled story.

Frank Peretti is an excellent writer and is very good at weaving a lot of details together to make one powerful conclusion. You're on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Can I be Frank? I think not.

It follows the journey of Sally Beth Roe as she tries to escape her past and slowly overcomes her constant struggle to discern the Truth. Also told is the story of another small town, similar to that of This Present Darkness and called Bacon's Corner, and a resident named Tom Harris. His kids are ripped from his home by Child Services, his job at the local Christian school is compromised, and the religious freedoms of every believer in the world are threatened in a lawsuit that could create a freedom-destroying precedent. Seeming to have no connection with other events at first, a young police officer, Ben Cole, is convinced what is being brushed off as a suicide is actually a murder, and ends up losing his job over the issue... which brings him to the side of the embattled Christian school. Caught in the crossfire is a little girl who's been forced into a curriculum of "meditation techniques" and "inner spiritual guides" that control her moods, attitudes, and actions, the little Amber Brandon, and her mother Lucy who realizes this lawsuit and the people who are "helping" her may be much, much more than she bargained for. Before the paths that Sally Roe and Tom Harris [and the others] are on collide, the Ashton Clarion editor and his wife, Marshall and Kate Hogan (from This Present Darkness), make a return appearance as veteran fighters in this war against the powers of darkness that threaten freedom of religion everywhere. As the story unfolds, the lawsuit and its participants are soon locked in a struggle of ethics versus non-ethics, absolutes versus relativism, right versus wrong, and those with interest in this battle are shown to be even in the highest places of government.

Love the book read it in 1986, and wanted a new copy.

Peretti's first book is also his best book. Such a good read in 1986 I wanted to read it again to see if the pages turned as fast and they did. Great book for people to see how pray may work. The pictures that form in your mind are so real as he describes the characters. If you like Christian fiction this is a must book for your library.

Loved it, wish Peretti would write another one! This was the second of two fictional books that really make you think about the spiritual battles that go on for our very lives. Read This Present Darkness first to get the most out of the next one. Peace!

It Has Very Cool Spiritual Warfare With The Heavenly Host Being Lead By The Praying Saints. Kind of Like A "Screwtape Letters",Except With Much More Action. Great Characters,Story,And Suspense!!! Buy This Book Quickly To
Keep The Darkness Pierced Baby!!!
Ephesians 6:10 For we battle not against flesh and blood. But against powers and principalties, the rulers of this present darkness!

This book made me see what is really going on around me. It opened my eyes to why people are drawn to do certain things seemingly against their will.

  Piercing the Darkness

Though this book was written in 1989, it touches on a subject that is pertinent to us today. That is, the secular indoctrination of our children by schools. This book has some of the same characters as "This Present Darkness" but can be read before it, more of a spinoff than a sequel. The human, angelic and demonic characters all play a part in a law suit against a Christian school. This is a true spiritual warfare battle, similar to "The Screwtape Letters". I loved this book because it deals with a very real situation through cliffhangers, suspense and twists. I could not put it down until I was finished.

  love the peretti books,
Review created: 12/03/06

this book was introduced to me through a friend. i love fiction and fairytales and i love god but dont belong to any one church. this tale is an easy reader, and the story can be taken more than one way....my grandmother was worried that i was imagining little demons dancing around my head all the time. really it encouraged my hope and faith that when i send out a prayer there is someone listening and it will be answered and we are certainly here for a reason. i liked the book, i would like to get more of his books and others like it. the only downfall to christian books is that you cant by them anywhere. in fact, i think you have a better chance of finding occult and witchcraft, etc. first. thats okay mind you, just think other books should be readily available too.

  Review for Piercing the Darkness
Review created: 06/05/06

I wanted to buy this book because it is the sequel of a book called "This Present Darkness" which I read a while back. I really like the book so far, but I'm not done reading it yet. The book was in good condition, although I assumed that it was coming in Hardback form instead of Paperback. Other then this, I find the book to be in very good condition inside and out.
