Pieces of My Heart by Robert Wagner, Scott Eyman (2008, Hardcover)

I bought this book only because I am a devoted admirer of Barbara Stanwyck and had heard there was a chapter about her in RJ Wagner's book. I was favorably impressed with the chapter Wagner devoted to Stanwyck, with its respect and affection. Later I read the whole book and was fairly impressed with the rest of it. I'd never given Wagner much thought at all, but he seemed to be a pretty decent guy. But I am not ordinarily a reader or fan of the private lives of the famous so my views are probably not typical.

A must for movie buffs and RJ Wagner fans. A very personal, insightful take on life as an actor and the interactions with other people in the industry. A warm and well written memoir by a genuine gentleman I was lucky enough to meet twenty or so years ago. Many wonderful stories about iconic stars of years past.

This is an outstanding book, well documented and very interesting. Such a page turner, I could hardly wait to turn the pages and was disappointed went my reading experience was finished.I purchased this book because I love to read about the "Golden Days of Hollywood"

Not a fan of RJ but definitely one of Natalie Wood. I bought the book to see what he had to say about life with her and her death. The book was slow at times but also had moments full of lovely memories and some amusing moments (ie David Niven). I grew up in the sixties and recall many individuals he names in this book. If you aren't familiar with TV and Movies from the 60's - 80's era, this book may bore you. He seems to be a very caring man and appears to truly love his family.

What a terrific book .. I learned a lot about my friend RJ .. Easy book to read .. I wish there had been more about "Hart to Hart" as that is when we 'kind of worked together' .. I thought or remember so many things about those times .. I first met him when he was on "Thief" .. spoke to him weekly with his ratings (a network NO NO back then and he would never let anyone take them . had to be RJ!) .. I sooooo enjoyed the book .. he looks fantastic! .. Had no clue he was 'up there in age' . but I shall catch up .. You MUST read this book .it is a LOT of old Hollywood .. Funny, I never knew he took voice lessons to lower his voice . I always thought, until he was older, that his voice was too LOW .. but back in 'those days' .. IF your voice was too high .. you became a writer or director .. I can think of a few GREAT looking men who tried to be actors .. and can think of a few who have HIGH voices today .. How the studios have changed .. I am soooo glad I got to work at the various studios when I did and SO glad to have read a WONDERFUL book! .. Thank you RJ:) ... (he had the photos of my German Shepherd watching "Hart" on the mirror of his motorhome . he loved her) there is something he did NOT mention . he used to raise WHITE German Shepherds and offered me one when he did "Thief" .. alas, could not take one at that time .. A Super .. Lovely & caring man .. AND .. a TERRIFIC actor!

Very poorly written, more likle a diary than any specific information. Disjointed as it hops from one place to another without any real tie together information. Nearly everyone has been wrong with the exception of him.
Strange I had looked forward to reading his book and was disapointed with the contents and the way it was put together.
I worked in that town for more than 50 years and was in the entertainment industry for a significant amount of that time. Stories always circulated about the various personalities most of which were press agents dreams and he managed to stay clean of most until the later part of his career and then in an attempt to get a grater return for whatever he contributed to the entertainment he tried to get in on the financing and with poor business sence he ended up taking the people that he was involved with to courts in attempts to get more money than he was actually due. Tye result was his name gradually went down as far as being a nice guy. I would not recommend his book to anyone that is looking for factual information or any real insite as to what made Mr. Wagner run.

If you grew up in the 60's you'll enjoy this book. Lots of "old Hollywood" references and stories. Felt it wasn't all that informative and that "RJ" kept it superficial in many respects. Probably part of the reason he never become a big-time movie star. Nice guy, great father, lotsa baggage. Sounds like most everyone.

I found this to be a fascinating glimpse in to the life of an actor who I have liked since childhood - watching It Takes a Thief. I have also watched many of his earlier movies, my favorite being A Kiss Before Dying. He writes honestly and sincerely in my opinion, and he is very open about his feelings for others and his encounters with many famous people. I enjoyed the book.

read it... A great story is told in this book...
