Most people that have seen this movie by Roman Polanski agree the film is superb. Obviously it is epic, a period piece, well written and cast. Adrien Brody was fabulous! What too many over look is another character, Captain Wilm Hosenfled brilliantly performed by Thomas Kretschmann. This German officer, with his silent humanity and love of music, is the real star in The Pianist. his conflicted story makes this film a must see, and re-see.

A look at cold brutality in a sensitive movie
Review created: 09/03/07(updated 09/11/07)

You cannot really comprehend what is inhuman until you completely connect with a moment of grief where a jewish woman is shot in the head in complete cold blood execution style for no other reason than to demonstrate superiority based on the ability to be arbitrarily inhumanly brutal at every waking moment. We tend to glamorize nazi images at times as these folks are dressed up in smart uniform and speak "politely". Ultimately we must gauge them on their actions which came from thoughts that need to be fully understood. at that point you will have no hesitation in rejecting their idea of superior strength and intellect, or anyone else dressed up like them or like someone else even.

PS I'd like the title pulled off the shlves as it shows violence that shouldnt be condoned, and it does so in a manner that does not adequately express human outrage.

An old master’s return to making masterpieces. It is a film of astonshing scope and raw emotional power, yet it remains unsentimental. Polanski does show random acts of violence, but understands how they must be presented: if we have only a glimpse of a person talking or otherwise interacting before their death our emotional connection is much greater than if we are simply shown murder. The film is the story of a man on a twisted journey of self-discovery and return to primal instinct. There is a real-time quality to the film, though it takes place over a number of years. As such, the pacing and scripting are pitch-perfect in placing you in a reality far removed from a theatre, and on a journey spanning years in a mere 140 minutes.

From the beginning, this movie grabs you and takes you back in time. It won't leave you bored! I'd seen this movie on Pay Per View and wanted to purchase it for myself. The acting is excellent and it's just great adult entertainment. Five stars!!!

A eye-opening gift to our heart and soul
Review created: 07/11/06

The film "The Pianist" is a cut in stone definition of true prestige dramatic film making. Many others filmmakers have pursued to create films of this magnitude but tend to fall short. Filmmaker Roman Polanski captures hearts, in this soul wrenching look into the world as it was through the cold, harsh reality of humanity during World War II.
Roman Polanski is a visionary who's created a masterpiece stemming from
phenomenal epic writing, as he breathes life into his films. Wladyslaw Szpilman writer of "The Pianist" has paved the way for Polanski to give the world an eye-opening gift in true emotional dramatics that can open our hearts and minds.
This hard hitting film's story line personalizes itself through emotional delivery in every scene. The film's color sequences, sounds, angles, depiction’s, moods, and settings create perspective feelings and emotions that many film makers can only hope to aspire to. This epic view of the holocaust is one of a kind in it's class, speaking of class Polanski gives this brilliant film grace, and passion without unnecessary fabrications thus staying true to elegant film making and Szpilman's writing.
Polanski receives a review of excellence for film development aspects, accurate sensory depth, set construction, design detail, and endless imagination. What was especially astonishing was the way Polanski managed to captivate audiences with a single character (Adrien Brody) "The Pianist", never the less another winning performance on his part. Brody’s character is depicted flawless, a gentle man with passion who’s world is torn from beneath him, leaving him starved, and sheltered in solitaire.
Through this characters trials and tribulations, you'll experience the feelings that the character goes through as you relate personally with the film. Brody’s character shows how a man, no matter how broken his life, can stay strong by not giving up and remembering what makes you true. Brody and his character are impeccable, truly a triumphing casting crew. With Polanski's detailed visions and Brody's exceptional screening, this film duo could prevail all productions on the big screen. Aside the well deserved awards, This films influence and impact makes this prominent film a true inspirational work of courage, perfection and brilliance.

-If emotional drama is what you seek I strongly suggest:

I really like this movie because of it's authenticity of the events that occured during WWII and the holocost. The actors were supurb in such a difficult setting in the time of history that this covered. I think Adrien Brody was fantastic for the part and did a great job.

  Accurate title
Review created: 02/22/09(updated 02/22/09)

A true story of the struggles of survival of Wladyslaw Szpillman, a twenty-something Polish Jew, who was a celebrated concert pianist & composer, playing on the Polish Free Radio at the time of the Nazi's invasion of Warsaw. Excellent directing by Roman Polanskli & acting by Adrien Brody, who played Szpillman. Szpillman lost his enture family to the Nazi death camps. He remained in Warsaw & wrote out what had happpens to him and many others at that time. He married, raised a family & died in 2000 at 88. A wonderful & freightening story of overcoming the greatest obstecles of life & death & surviving to tell about. A story not to be missed!

FABULOUS, POWERFUL, OVERWHELMING AND THE BEST FILM
Review created: 01/21/09

Best filming, directing and acting I have ever seen. True story of the Jews in Poland in WWII. The only film I have ever been to when the audience was so overwhelmed at the end, that no one left the theater until all the credits were over and the lights were turned on.

Brilliant portrait of talent, courage and their power!
Review created: 11/28/08

Loved the brutal honesty and authenticity that this political drama provides of the inhumane acts of World War II. However, like so many of us prefer, good eventually triumphs in the end, as no matter what happened to our pianist, his talent and artistry remains untouched by the events.

  The best
Review created: 06/26/08

I bought this movie three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 1M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

  WW II Buffs Must-OWN !
Review created: 05/25/08

The lesser known story of Warsaw Poland is revealed in this stunning, poignant, heart-tugging drama that doesn't sugarcoat the reality of WW II.
A must-own and must-see for WW II buffs and those who aren't familiar with Poland's view of the war. The music is rousing, gorgeous and enthralling even though the story itself is tragic at first. But much like Corrie Ten Boom's tale, it is inspirational. It reminds us that in adversity, we can overcome anything, just so long as we have faith and never give up.
