A look at cold brutality in a sensitive movie
Review created: 09/03/07(updated 09/11/07)

You cannot really comprehend what is inhuman until you completely connect with a moment of grief where a jewish woman is shot in the head in complete cold blood execution style for no other reason than to demonstrate superiority based on the ability to be arbitrarily inhumanly brutal at every waking moment. We tend to glamorize nazi images at times as these folks are dressed up in smart uniform and speak "politely". Ultimately we must gauge them on their actions which came from thoughts that need to be fully understood. at that point you will have no hesitation in rejecting their idea of superior strength and intellect, or anyone else dressed up like them or like someone else even.

PS I'd like the title pulled off the shlves as it shows violence that shouldnt be condoned, and it does so in a manner that does not adequately express human outrage.

Excellent movie. Loved it. I was surprised how he survived the war and was deeply touched by the German Officer at the end who helped him.

I was inclined to buy this movie because of the detail of the plot. I myself am very interested in the hollocaust era and what it did to our country and i love watching intense movies about what people go through, throughout their lives and what they do to over come their obstacles.

One of the best movies I have ever seen. Great acting by cast. Based on the
real life of a polish pianist and the madness Hitler brought upon the jews
in Poland during world war two. Every person should see this film. It will
cause you to think about how you treat your fellow man and should make you
want to be a better human being.

I loved this movie because it is based on a true story. Besides it will keep you focused on the drama all the time. I truly believe it is a wonderful movie, eventhough the plot of it is very heart breaking.

  A must-have DVD

Wladyslaw Szpilman wasn't a well-known pianist to my world, but, his story touched my heart and the film/music stayed in my mind first time I saw it. This is one of the musician autobiography DVDs I purchased on the eBay. Sometime, I just leave the DVD playing on the background of my computer and listening to the music.

This film is a tribute to Wladyslaw Szpilman's survival, a film to show the talent of a young movie star Adrien Brody, also, a film to display the Jewish's struggle during and after the War (after Shindler's List and many others).

"F. Chopin: Nocturne C sharp" is one of my favorite Chopin pieces, just to own a good recording on Chopin pieces, it's nice to have this DVD too.

  Brody plays Wladyslaw Szpilman A+++++
Review created: 06/03/07

best holocaust movie made
without a doubt triumphs over schindlers list
adrien brody was a star in his role, surviving everyday in the nazi occupied country of poland in warsaw. After experiencing his family being thrown into cattle trains which would eventually lead them to their deaths, Wladyslaw Szpilman was saved by one of the jewish police who had known him prior to the holocaust. The way brody portrayed the angst, fear and greif was amazing
he deserved the award as did Polanski
being jewish this movie really affected me personally so i may be possibly baised
but i would reccommend it to anyone interested in history and the events of world war 2

An emotional roller coaster. A historical masterpiece. Brilliant acting. Worth every penny. A small glimpse of what the Holocaust must have been like. Adrian Brody WOW,His role could have not been played any better. Horrific scenes of Nazi terror and gut wrenching emotional scenes that take you right into the movie, you get lost in time. The music adds to the emotions and feelings of the movie. From one scene to another you do not know what to expect or who will live or die. Yes, we know historically that the Jewish Men, Women and Children were eventually freed, however how they survived and who they lost are in this heartbreaking story.
