This is a very pretty player. It is a little more bulky than most images that you see online lead you to believe. The drive is a bit noisy, but it's great for the price, especially since is has divx playback.

All-around excellent player
) This is a wonderful DVD player.
I chose it b/c it is one of few that is NOT a flip-up/laptop style. I mounted it to the back of a headrest with some velcro strips and 3M Command Hooks for our first family vacation (from Florida to Michigan).
It is easy to operate with a slide open face and intuitive controls (including remote). The picture quality is AWESOME!!
The sound was adequate for backseat viewers without being invasive to the adults in the front - although we did have the volume at max most of the time - if you have a vehicle that allows a lot of 'road noise' this may not be the best.
The internal, rechargeable battery had great life as we charged it at night and did not need the car adapter.
We did not experience any overheating/shut-off problems. But to be fair, we only ran it for about an hour at a time for children's movies.
I would reccommend this player to anyone, but do your research and understand how you plan on using it.

Low cost, reliable (at least so far) and plays DVD-Rs burned with files in DIVX/XVID format as well as standard DVDs. The SD slot is great, though I haven't tried HDSD cards in it yet.
The battery holds several hours worth of charge, and the speakers while not great are better and louder than what you usually get on a little media player like this.
You open the disc bay by sliding the screen forward.
Not so good:
The unit is a bit heavier and bulkier than many other portable units. The screen is probably better protected on media units with the fold-up clamshell design than this tablet style approach. A second headphone jack would be nice and is included in most other media players, but not this one. I wish the media player took a USB jump drive rather than an SD card.
The user interface/menu design could be a LOT better, but it's no worse than on other media players I have played with.
Overall, the Phillips PET723 is a fine media player for around $100.
