Great player....Probably as good as IPOD, but cheaper 21 of 23 people found this review helpful.
I like the touch screen controls, the color display, its ability to display pictures, its large 6GB storage capacity, and its loud volume. I have only owned one other MP3 player and the Philips HDD1630 is by far the better of the two that I have owned. The volume is pretty loud, which is a plus. The music is very clear, and the built in FM Radio is nice when you do not want to listen to your stored MP3's. The supplied headphones are comfortable. The actual battery life is about 8 hours of continuous play, much lower than the 18 hours as advertised. Syncing the player up with Windows Media Player is a little tricky, but it does not take long to get the hang of it. Make sure you have Windows XP if you are going to purchase this player, because it only works with Windows XP. All in all, a great MP3 player for under $200.

I bought the MP3 player because of the storage it allowed for all my music I listen to. I had bought a smaller mp3 player from creative and it was such junk. I was so mad the creative zen mp3 buttons were so hard to push to get it turned on, I was ready to throw it out the window. A friend at work had just bought a Philips 8 GB MP3 and he asked if I could load some songs on it. I was amazed at how easy it was to load and sleek the design was. Now in the time of Ipod's, I wasn't ready to spend $300 or $400 for one. So I found a 6GB philips MP3 for cheaper than what the stores were asking, and its great. I have learned the touch pad is very touchy, but other than that it works great. The earphone that came with it really block out all sound and I was amazed. I can do my walking in the morning with music I can actually hear, not the sound of birds mixed with my music. The only feature I am not crazy about is that when you power it up, you cannot turn it off. So you have to make sure that you aren't playing music, but have it paused. The battery is another less feature I like, the life span of it in a car is only about 2 hours max. It states it has a 4 hour capability, but it's not so. On a recent trip to Washington, it didn't even make 200 miles. But I am searching for a plug in so that I can keep the battery powered while driving. I have only 600 songs on it, and I have yet to fill it to capacity. The other features of putting your favorites is even better. With Windows Media player, if you have your playlist ready, it transfers with ease and it's completely fast. The 600 songs I have loaded took a total of 15 minutes to upload. Not only that, I can even put pictures and video on the MP3 player. So if I have family member who hasn't seen recent pictures of our daughters, i can show them on my MP3 player. I do like it. Just wish the battery would last longer. Or at least have an option to put batteries in it and let it not be running music while it's powering up. I don't regret buying it. I think it was a great buy. It came with more storage than the Ipod for the price I bought it at. Which made it even better.
