Philips DVP3960 DVD Player

This was a total surprise. I got it for a great price and it was local so no shipping. I did not expect much. I tried it out with normal patch cords and it worked fine. When I switched overthe HDMI on my 1080i LCD, the picture was awsome. This is a great deal for the money. Easy to use and a remote control.

I've always bought Philips DVD players. They are by and far the best. They play everything. The HDMI interface on this player is a big plus.

This DVD is a great deal. If you buy the HDMI cable, which I got off ebay for 5.00 shipped. It makes alomost every movie look great.

Very quick delivery and exactly as advertised. Quite satisfied. The DVD player works nicely in my production environment. I would recommend it to all.

Sleek thin design and easy to use. I connect it via HDMI to a 720p projector and the image is stunning given that I'm not seeing its full 1080i potential. The multi-region capability is not standard. You'll need to engage in some jigger-pokery to get that to work, but you're golden once it does. The DVD player is great a great basic setup...my only niggle is that the remote's signal is weak, which means there's a lot of getting up and and sniper aiming going on when starting a movie. (Yes, I put fresh batteries in the thing...) Also, Philips dropped the design ball with the remote - black remote with black keys with dark gray writing. That's pretty annoying when you're in a darkened theater room.

The Philips DVD players are the only ones I have found that play DIV-X format movies. If you are recording movies off the web, then you know this is the format that they come in and unless you watch them on your computer, you can't play them on your HDTV. The Philips DVD Players are an exceptional value with their low price and ability to play virtually EVERY format you can think of and then some.

I purchased a brand new Philips DVD player for my husband for Christmas and when my step-son saw it, he wanted one. The price for the used ones on ebay is great if you bid smartly. This is an extremely light and thin DVD player (great for tight spaces or the bedroom), and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I was looking for an inexpensive dvd player for my bedroom that has a 26" Samsung LCD HDTV. This Phillips was less that 30 bucks and had decent reviews so I thought I would give it a shot. Wow, when you put the settings on 720p the quality is excellent. I never thought you could get that good of a picture from a non Blu Ray player. I give it 2 thumbs up for anyone looking for a compact inexpensive dvd player.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my mother. I opened it up to make sure that everything was working properly, and then plugged the unit in. For some reason the tray would not open! Finally, it did and then I tested it out a couple more times and all seemed to be okay...I haven't seen the quality of the picture it can produce with HD, but after Christmas I will be hooking it up for my mother. Overall, unit seems to be kind of flimsy with a poor design, but I am hoping that it will at least be a good upconverting DVD player. There isn't an eject button on the remote as well, which is a feature that I didn't like very much either.

This Philips DVD player is an excellent slim-design model for space-saving.
Anyone with limited shelf space or weight constraints on their home entertainment systems will find this silver DVD player to be a perfect accompaniment to their system, adding great value and many countless hours of DVD/VCD/MP3/etc... enjoyment.

There is a lot of talk about whether or not up-converters are worth the buy. If they even make a difference. The answer is absolutely!!! The picture quality is much much better (if you have an HDTV of course.) Moral of the story: this is a great dvd up-converter and well worth the purchase!
