Philips DVDR3505/37 DVD Recorder

The Philips DVDR3505/37 DVD Recorder is a fantastic machine, once you learn all of its idiosyncrasies. The digital tuner works well, even with ordinary non-digital antennas. The instruction books were detailed, written for a novice. I recommend this recorder and the 3506/37 to anyone needing a programmable digital recorder replacement for a VCR.

the DVD recorder i bought works great!! it was exactly what i was looking for. the shipping was very fast. they made the whole transaction painless.

So far, so good. I have only been using this unit for about a month but so far I am VERY happy with it. It has much better picture quality than my Lite-On player that failed after a few years of use. Programming is straight forward and is intuitive enough that it can be done without an owner's manual. I like this recorder so much that I ordered a second one as a backup. I am hoping I won't need the backup for a long time.

I bought this dvd recorder because my father bought himself a 42 inch plasma. The DVD has an upconversion to 1080p and because of this HD-DVD vs Blu-ray format war it's a good alternative to hi-def dvd watching. My father has a large dvd library and the dvd recorder goes great with his home receiver and it takes all region dvd as well. The only minus I can think of is it doesn't have a digital optical output. All and all it's a great buy.

this is a hight risk purchase for dvdr 3505/37 . I purchased one and requested for black one but they still shipped me the silver one. Second the tray does not open when I pressed open/close. Third, purchase came with 2 different manual books: The original one which is writen in french . The english one is a half size smaller than the original one and it is a duplicated so fonts are very small and the immages are so blur can't even see under the magnified glass. Befor I purchased this item I saw the feed back is very strong , over 99 percents. maybe their emloyees feed back, as a thought.

In my opinion, this product don't filled my expectations, because when I burn a DVD recordable even though close it, the other players don't read it.

Since I have only used this DVD recorder to play DVDs up until this point, I can't really write a full review. What I have noticed is that it plays recorded programs on discs which are not finalized (my previous DVD recorder - Panasonic DMR-EZ28 - broke and I would no longer even read discs). The only concern I have is the humming noise that is present when the unit is on. Other than that, I would recommend this product.

Hopefully I will be able to update this review as I use more of the unit's features.

I needed a recorder to go directly from my digital camcorder. This one is a little more complicated than the directions show but it works fine once you can figure it out. The DVD's come out in a good quality. Just what I needed.

This item was refurbished and promised like new. When I received it the tuner did not work. I contacted Philips they said they couldnt replace or fix it, because the unit was so old. This product was advertised like new...Pay a few dollars extra and buy new.

Product works great for the price (good value)...mine was refurbished by a location designated by Philips. When i received my recorder, everything was in Spanish and the documentation was very poor in guiding me thru the process to correct. Great quality recordings.

The DVD Recorder cam with all of the manuals and cables needed for standard hook up. The unit looks like it is brand new as well as the remote. The digital tuner also has better reception than my other equipment.

Allright, Here is the Skinny, This thing works perfectly, it was cheaper than Phillips other model on ebay, but it played all the formats minus r plus r, etc.. This part about all these other reviews that people cant get the digital channels to come in is really ridiculous..you need to have the correct spliter at the front of you cable service another words 1 in and 5 out not a 1x3 then a 1x2 then a another spliter after another and then you put your digital phillips recorder on the last one it just doesnt work. you need the biggest spliter at the front and make sure you take the on for the phillips at the front or as one of the first connections otherwise you wont get a signal. I bought 2 of these, one for my upstairs projector and 1 for my downstairs projector, they work perfectly and I get all the channels, any questions look me up on ebay as Pipefittermike, Thanks

I bought it about 2 weeks ago to use for my recently purchased 40 inch monitor which doesn't have TV Tuner. It works perfect and easy to install.
Also, its accessibility is also good so I'm not failing to use it without manual. Easy to use.

I haven't the function to record the TV using DVDRW, but I believe it would work great.

I liked the price compared to what I'd found in retail stores. Also, the name Philips is very well known in the electronics world. It is very user friendly, easy to program, and the quality is very good. The cabinet is very attractive and the slim unit fits in well with my current video/audio equipment.

Aside from the manual being a little tough to follow (you need to jump from page to page for some of the basic task instructions), this is a fine alternative to a VCR. The lack of a COAX output for the "play" part of the device is a little "off-putting", but considering I have more cables than I know what to do with, it was easily overcome. I like the idea of never needing to replace recording media, as the DVD should be good for many more write cycles than any VCR tape ever made. As long as I only want to watch the DVD on this device, I shouldn't have to replace it for a very long time.

Purchasing it on Ebay was a plus.

recorder/player works great, bulit in tuner allows digital channels to be tuned in without cable or sattelite. Have had the exact same recorder for over a year and liked it so much I wanted another one to hook up in another location for recording various TV shows. Easy to use and set up. A great recorder with tuner for a low price.

Cant beat it. Great SD tuner - Nice Upconversion RF in HDMI out. Using this item as a stand alone tuner for my plasma tv. Records easily - Also great to hook up camcorder and record to dvd.

After a month of use I have found that this recorder is slow finalizing and when using the control for set up it will jump ahead quickly to the touch so you are always going back. One step forward two steps back.Picture is good and for a referb. definately worth the money.

The recorder was in perfect condition, however I could not use it due to the fact that I only have an analog television and didn't know how to hook it up, therefor I returned the item.

great transaction

The machine is very good for the price vs other new and more elaborate functions. But for what it does which is record timed programs onto DVD it is great. The remote is a little hard to read given the small buttons and I need reading glasses. I would have wanted the software to be a little more user friendly. Panasonic has a much more friendly interface. The disc edit function especially. I would like to be able to set the record time on disc to 4 hours rather than a predetermined 2 hours some engineer decided that would be good. There is no option unless you do timer record and make it record at a lesser quality. Overall a Good rating for the price, I just hope it lasts longer than my panasonic did.

I bought this DVD Recorder because it suppose to have a built in TV Tuner but I think Philips forgot to put it in mine. Hope I can return it

Over all, Im happy with what I got for the price. The burner works great for recording TV. Upconvert doesnt impress me, but it does seem to help slightly.
