Philips DCP851 8.5 in. Portable DVD Player

This unit is compact, easy to operate, plays extremely well and was very easy on the pocket. We lose power in our town in Kansas quite often, and now we have a way to watch movies during the blackout. It comes with protective case,
all the charging equipment needed for auto and home and plugs for video in and out. We are extremely pleased with this unit enough so to consider another one for a gift for our granddaughter in college.

It's small, it's lightweight and it's convenient. Most of the portable dvd players out there are laptop style, so they are bigger and bulkier. I love the size of this little guy and its convenience.
I bought it because the price was right; a new one sells for almost double usually (of this model) and I didn't care for the new bulkier ones that were out there at a reasonable price in the stores.

It looks like its been used. of course its refurbished, but other than that it is in EXCELLENT condition. i mean EXCELLENT!! it works great!

Was very pleased with the way customer service handled my situation and way very pleased with product, highly professional business.

The value and quality were great. The only downside is the remote control doesn't not work that well. Have to be very close and really punch the buttons to get it to work.

this will be short and sweet. i received my item and the disc reader was no good.. it made weird noises and didnt play any discs. i returned my item and have had no communication, so i have no idea when i should receive my new item... so i cant really give a true item review without the item...

This thing has pretty much everything you will need on the road or a flight! NIce big screen, iPod tray, 2 earphone plug-ins, good volume and speakers, great case and accessories, rechargable batt.(although mine doesn't last that long but that is to be expected on a used item) (hoe I can replace it)....overall great looking and playing unit! And I mean it plays EVERYTHING!!! Photo discs off a Mac, a DVD my bro got from overseas that wouldn't play on anything we had! The only reason I didn't give it an Excellent is because I wish it had an easy open door to drop the batt out and replace with a new one!

bought this portable dvd player after our 2 year old philips dvd player stopped working after being dropped about 30 time and heavily abused. we use this dvd player almost every day. we initially bought it for in the car but found that it was so easy to hook up to a larger at home tv and play movies that we use it alot more. hopefully this one will withstand my 3 years old care and last another 2 years. the price of this dvd player is a steal compared to the same size sonys.

Pros: Plays DVD's and Divx movies as advertised. You just have to make sure to encode in a DIVX format it likes.
I really like the card slot which also accepts SDHC memory cards besides just SD.

Cons: No, the screen might not be the greatest but it is tolerable for something portable. A bit big if you plan on carrying it around a lot. Better for the car, train, plane.

For the price I paid, I'm quite happy!

This is a solid portable dvd player. The only problem we had was finding a harness for it for our vehicle.

It was refurbished. A few wear scratches but nothing wrong with the screen. So farbeen using it for a few days so far so good. It was a really good deal.

this unit was scratched up...would not power up.. a total piece of refurbed junk.. should of never hit the market. why a seller would sell such junk is beyond me... the only pleasant thing is that the seller took it back with minimal trouble...

I got this for my grandaughter to use as we travel. She can operate it and it keeps her busy. The screen is large enough and the sound is fine.

I search online many hours looking for a dock for my Ipod touch. I needed it to charge my device, have a good sound system, look good on my desk, and display ipod functions on the screen.
Well all that seemed to to be too much to ask for from the Philips DCP951. THE SOUND QUALITY WAS LESS THAN OK. the operating system was so slow it was frustrating .You'd push a button and wait 5-6 seconds before it accepts command. Picture was grainy, (not as good as other LCD/DVD'S under 150.00). In addition to that the ipod dock is in no way sturdy enough to withstand regular use. It's way to flimsy for how hard you have to push your ipod in or pull it out.
The Philips Company is leading the way with this great idea, however they didn't follow through with industry competitive quality. They manufactured it into such a poor product. Everyones losses here, I returned it......

Versatile and dependable thus far. I really like the fact that you can use an SD card, Ipod or disc. It makes portability much less of an issue while travelling.

like the fact it was compact and seller answered my questions would buy again from this seller the only down fall is no car mount but i guess you cant have everything

I bought a refurb. with a good price. I wanted to find a player that plays DVDs and MPEG4 movies. It will work for my kid, but I personally expected it to be better.

Pros:
-Big screen.
-Plays videos, photos and music from DVDs, SD, iPods (have not tried iPods yet)
-Plays DivX (but not other MPEG4 formats)

Cons:
-Low screen resolution. Screen is very pixellated.. dot-matrix is very clear. So the image quality is NOT very good.
-Plays Divx but not Xvid formats nor other MPEG4 formats that are found and downloadable from the net. I contacted Philips and they said there is no upgrade for the firmware to make it play 'Xvid' nor to remove the DVD region lock.
-Cannot charge battery and play a movie at the same time.

Everything was what was describe and I recommend them highly! I needed to buy one to keep my daugher busy on car rides and we just used it last weekend and it worked PERFECTLY! Item is exactly as it looks and works wonderfully!

What i liked about this product is it was handheld and i could practice with dvds for my Ballroom instruction. Only thing i did dislike about it was its width, its a little on the bulky side but still easy to use. i decided to buy it cause the price was right and it was what i needed for my instructional needs.

The only complaint I have is that there is no way to mount it in the car for passengers to view movies. I like the fact that you can dock the ipod and then slide it in so that it is protected and out of view.


Now that I have used it for a while, I wanted to update my review. The leg that is used to prop up the player is weak and breaks easily.
