Synopsis Philip Guston did these 75 ink drawings of Richard Nixon in 1971, but when Guston died in 1980, they were still unpublished. Now they appear with an introduction by Debra Bricker Balken, who found the drawings among his effects while doing research for another book.

Industry Reviews "The book is like a whacked-out storyboard for a cartoon biopic of Nixon's career." Bookforum - Harry Cooper
"In spite of Guston's hatred for his subject, the mood is meditative, fanciful. We have entered the realm of burlesque, for Guston's Nixon is less a political caricature than the embodiment of all resentment and self-pity....The Poor Richard drawings are still fresh and funny, a rare example of an American painter engaging with politics without being preachy or irrelevant." Times Literary Supplement - Chase Madar (11/16/2001)
