Philadelphia Chickens by Michael Ford, Sandra Boynton (2002, Package)

Philadelphia Chickens is the greatest book with cd that I've encountered. Sandra Boynton & Michael Ford have imaginative lyrics & illustrations that engage children from 1 yr. to adults of any age. The lyrics are catchy & we find the songs running through our heads at odd times. I can see this cd becoming a Broadway Show, really! The songs are varied: swing, lullaby, jump rope, show tune sytle, etc. Over the past year I have given 11 of these to friends as they have had children and grandchildren. Sandra has three cd's in all and this one is the best. Rhinoserous Tap is cute but it doesn't have the variety of style it needs and Dog Train is advertised as rock 'n roll but it's not as interesting as Philadelphia Chickens.

When you listen to "Chocolate Chip Cookies", "Belly Button", and "Pajama Time" you remember what it was like to be too small to reach the cookie jar, intrigued by discovering your belly button, and how to make it fun to get ready for bed at night.

I recommend this book for every child and adult. We all dance to this cd and we hope you do too.

What fun this is!!! I don't know who likes it more, me or my girls! :-) We pla marching band sing and dance! It's a riot. Sandra Boyton is one of the wittiest children's writter's I have every has he pleasure of reading!

The book was delivered quickly but smelled like cigarette smoke. I wished I'd have known it came from a smoking atmosphere. I won't have gotten it there.

Hey Grannies and Grandmas ... if you grew up around Philly in the 70's ... you will love these Boynton cd's ... my granddaughter likes Kevin Kline's "Busy" ... not even two yet and she has such good taste ... Yale graduate literature ... look Sandra Boynton up sandraboynton.com and Wikipedia ... you will me impressed!

This silly CD has famous people (Scott Bakula, Meryl Streep are two) singing silly animal songs to Broadway tunes. They are peppy, entertaining (to kids and those of us who have to listen to it over and over again), and musically fun. I would recommend it to anyone who has a 3 to 6 year old. The kids also enjoy the book with the funny Sandra Boynton illustrations. The music and lyrics are in the book. They can look at the pictures for each song. Since the pictures are numbered, the children can also learn their numbers! Rhinoceros Tap is a sister album filled with equally silly songs that are quite singable and equally as enjoyable.

This is the funniest book and cd to enjoy with the kids, from toddlers to early grades. You can sing and dance with the cleaver songs. The adults will get a kick out of it. Babies will enjoy it, but it's not babyish. I like to buy it for Baby shower gifts, as it is not something they will outgrow and if they have siblings, they, as well as mom and dad will enjoy listening and singing and dancing with baby. It' a memory maker.

My son loved it, lots of fun tunes and classic boynton animal antics. The musical notation of the songs at the end will be great as he grows up... both thumbs up!

Liked that it was competitively priced and I could buy it right away, didn't need to wait for auction. Was disappointed in that I was under the impression this was a "new" item, and it had clearly been used.

I just LOVE Philadelphia Chickens. The book is illustrated by Sandra Boynton's fun animals, and the accompanying CD has a lot of songs with great tunes and silly lyrics, which linger in your memory. These songs are sung by the Bacon Brothers, Kevin Klein, Meryl Streep and others. It is truly memorable, and an excellent buy!
