The Phantom (DVD, 1999, Widescreen)

This was a good adventure movie. The movie did justice in keeping with the spirit of the old original comic strip story line. It brought back a lot of childhood memories of reading the original black and white comic strips. Just a fun movie for the kid in you. It ended with a great twist.

I bought this movie because when it first came out I adored it. It came up in a conversation a few weeks ago, and I realised that I had lost my taping of it, and so had to buy the DVD version. There are no special features on the DVD, but the movie is enough for some grins and chuckles. The stunts are so outrageous, as is typical in old movies, and the characters say some things that are utterly ridiculous in modern times. I still love the movie, despite the ridiculousness of it,and reccomend it for anyone who doesn't take offence to impossible events in movies.

I have watched "Phantom" a three times and it was so much fun. Great action and high style, one of the best comic character adaptions that has been done. This is a great choice for your Friday night pizza gathering.

ok, i was a kid when i first saw this movie, but it still get me everytime i watch it. a good movie, i would recomend to anyone, it's a good family movie as long as the kids are older and understand it's fake and not real.

My father got me interested in comic strips such as The Phantom & Prince Valiant when I was very young. I very much enjoyed these adventure stories with fantastic artwork. I was pleased that the movie turned out so well and Billy Zane seems to be the perfect Phantom. Kristy Swanson plays his love interest while Catherine Zeta-Jones is the villianess. Treat Williams is the head villian. Lots of action & adventure. Love the horse & wolf- splendid actors themselves! Great effects and music! It takes place during the 1930s-1940s in New York and a Jungle Island. If you love Spiderman, you should love The Phantom.

Great DVD, have been looking for this DVD for a long time, great entertaining movie for the entire family.

I 1st saw this movie as a yong boy, it was fun and fascinating to watch. I've loved almost very comic turned movie I've seen. Minus of course, the really old old interpretations.

This movie in perticular I've wanted to get for awhile, mostly due to its continuing rarity. I've not-so-recently started to collect all comic-turned-movies. Marvels, DCs and etc. This of course being at the top of my list.

It took a while to actually get my hands on this film, but when I finally did get my hands on a copy it was worth it. Very good movie, a little on the dry side at slim moments but still rather good for its time.

How about Treat Williams, arguably the greatest B-Movie actor of all time (head to head with Bruce Campbell) as the bad guy Xander Drax? How about Kristy Swanson and Catherine Zeta-Jones in supporting roles they will probably regret for the rest of their lives?

The Phantom is one of those movies that is so bad that it's good. If that is the sort of movie you like, get it. Kind of hard to do these days since it's out of print (gee wonder why?) but you can still get it here on Ebay.

I'm being a little generous with the "good" ranking, but there wasn't an "above average" button. It has a heavy cheese factor, but then if it didn't, it would be more of a director's interpretation and less like the news serial.

Great movie for lovers of 90's Action & Adventure movies. Campy, yes and Cheesy yes. But the Action and the Adventure is Great and it's just how its supposed to be. Hard to find on DVD but if found do your best to add to your collection. They just don't make them like this anymore. Way more entretainig than Indiana Jones 4.

We had this on VHS for such a long time the video was starting to fade(to black). The Phantom skull was passed down from father to son for over 400 years. Kit(Billy Zane) grew up in the 'Skull Cave' but was schooled in the USA. When his father was murdered he had to take over the family traditions. Per chance, Treat Williams[the bad guy] had found two of the magical skulls and was looking for the third(which had been misplaced in the wrong era of a museum) to give him 'TOTAL POWER!' Kit got wind of this and high tailed it back to New York to retrieve(hopefully all)the skulls. Enter his college female friend Kristy Swanson(the daughter of the leading newspaper publisher)where after the museum breakin/a romp on horseback through the town/jumps into the icy water to hang onto the pontoon of the airship(Kathern-Zeta Jones pilots)which happens to be back to the Skull cave of Kit. The story is so comic book action that as a avid reader you really can't stop this film for the fist time. After that if you needed to take a dinner break then make the dinner but get back to the show! Best of Billy Zane in this kind of action. I've read there a a couple of sequels but haven't put a finger on then just yet. Happy viewing. -K-

I don't know what else to say except buy it it may be older but it's a great movie.

Great movie, Fantastic, was a great movie, enjoyed it very much. Great artwork and direction. Saw it recently and wanted to own it for myself, to add to my collection.

A classic action adventure! The Phantom sort of reminds me of Batman, because he is a hero who does not have to rely on superhuman powers. This is a great adventure story, and I recommend this movie to people of all ages.

I've always liked the Phantom, when I was little My Uncle would read the Phatom comic strip to Me! Then as I got older I would read it every day. I was quite sad when The paper stopped running it. But This Movie brought back alot of Happy memories for Me! If You like The strip You'll like the movie! But I thought Treat Walliams as the Bad Guy was a Bad choice!

I like the movie because it was a throwback on the old series long ago. Good acting and great background. Yes, it is a little youthy and predictible, but hey it was well worth the few dollars to enjoy a few hours entertainment.

It a fun movie , if you grew reading the Phantom in the comic section of the newspaper , you`ll enjoy the movie ; just wish they would come out with a part 2

Great movie. Wish there was more. Hope they come out with more movies like this one. It fits great in my "TV Show" Collection.

I had a copy years ago that was stolen when I was robbed. I have been looking for another copy. It arrived quickly and it was in great condition. We have enjoyed being able to watch it again.
