I have listened to Pet Sound many times and try as I may to figure out why this is considered to be one of rock's top records continues to escape me. At its core, it is a Brian Wilson solo record with the rest of the Beach Boys relegated to singing harmony and studio musicians laying down the instruments. Solid song writing, nice melodies and the usual great (if not typical) Beach Boys harmonies. At the time of its release, Pet Sounds was considered a recording achievement until the Beatles released Sgt Pepper which took all bets off the table. Don't get me wrong, this is a very good album, but one of the best rock records of all time? I don't know... I'll need to keep listening I guess. ** BnB Beatles Depot **
