Well written "What if" knovel by Pulitzer Prize winning author Geraldine Brooks. Brooks traces the journey of the Sarajevo Haggadah from its origins in Spain to the war ravaged town of Sarajevo. Inspired by the mariculous story of Sarajevo Haggadah, Brooks creates an adventure over several centuries. The chief component of the story is how the book is created and hidden from those who would destroy it as a piece Jewish culture.
Along the way, the reader is exposed to the people who touched the book and how the book changed them. A rare-book expert, the sefer who created it, the Catholic priest who saved it from buring and the museum curator who kept it from the hands of the Nazi's. Reading this book will make you next want to get a facsimile copy of the Haggadah to see its beauty.
