This is one of the nicest lenses that I have had the privelige of using. It takes sharp pictures all the way to F/2.8. It also focuses sharply to almost as short as three feet. The autofocus is smooth, quiet and relatively fast. I have seen some reviews of Pentax being slow to focus or hunting a lot in low light, but I have not seen this problem in this lens. The internal motor is all but silent. The build quality of this lens is incredible. It is definately worthy of a pro photog's kit. It has a nice heft and the adjustments are solid with no play. While I have not had this lens long, I can already see that it is going to become one of my goto lenses. It has great range for outdoor shooting, and the speed for low light situations. I simply have seen no faults in this lens yet.

) I like the size and price of this lens, compared to similar optics from other manufacturers. The build quality is good, although I'd like it to be a bit beefier. The autofocus is fast, although not as fast as some other lenses in the medium telephoto-long telephoto zoom style.
I decided to buy it because I knew it would work flawlessly with the camera technology I already had, and that it was a proven performer from a reputable company.

Excellent Lens. No SDM issueHood is too big & not good for travel. SDM focus very slow. Contract, Sharpness, color, brokeh, PF are top notch. Everything else is excellent.

One Very Sharp, Tough Lens-This Pentax SMC DA* 50-135mm f2.8 SDM lens is exceptionally sharp for a zoom. Even at the wide open apeture of f2.8 it's pretty good-better than I expected.
-Closed down--the imaging is great, as sharp as or sharper than much more expensive Canon 0r Nikon lens.
-On my K20D, the focussing is faster and much more quiet than non-SDM lenses.
-Handles smoothly; feels and looks very well put together--should be able to take some abuse compared to other lenses.
-I've taken it out in the rain (heavy downpour) with no worry. Just dried it off with a towel when I got back inside and kept on using it.
-The only CONS I can think of is that it does not reach out to 150mm like the Sigma 50-150mm f2.8.
-A bit heavy, but not objectionable.
I also have the Pentax 16-50mm f2.8 SDM. Really like that one too.
-There have been reports of SDM (focussing) problems after a while. These may have been early copies--SO FAR--mine are working great. I'll see.
-Just use it extensively when you first get the lens and put it through it's paces to test it, while still under warranty (one year in USA, two in Canada)
I take photographs to make some money as well as just because I enjoy it. This lens should fit in great for me.

Superb zoom lensIf you're looking for a high quality mid-zoom range lens, look no further. The DA* 50-135 is a league of it's own. This high quality professional grade lens is hands down one of the best lenses from Pentax's DA* lineup. The optical quality throughout the zoom range is super sharp even wide open from f/2.8. Sharpness rivals and even surpass that of primes. Once you stop down, it becomes razor sharp. Color, contrast, "bokeh" are typical Pentax high quality.
The build is excellent and although some may argue that it's a bit too big (especially with the hood), it feels great in the hands. The zoom range may be a bit on the short at the long end, but I can easily use it as a "walkaround" lens. Focusing is relatively quick and I haven't had any issues with it. Overall, a solidly built lens.
The only gripe I have with the lens is it's rather long minimum focusing distance. Sometimes I'll have to back up to be able to focus but it's definitely not a deal breaker. This lens is a must-have for all Pentax users.
