One of the best 24mm lens,certainly the best for Pentax

I love this lens the second I laid my hands on it. It feels just right in my hand.
Optically speaking, the center is tack sharp, bleeding sharp, or whatever the highest term for sharpness you can think of. Unfortunately, corners' resolution is where this lens falls short. It's not bad, but definitely not good enough if you demand a more even distribution of sharpness. Thus it's less ideal for landscape or flat subject shot. Contrast is high at wide open. Color rendition is top notch. The tonal is neutral, or a bit on the warm side. Bokeh of this lens is as pleasant as it gets.
Auto focus is decent on the new Pentax dSLR (I have the K10D and K20D), definitely not as fast as the SDM lens. Nevertheless, the manual focus feel of this lens is very nice, well-dampen though with the typical AF short throw.
In contrary with others' complain about the hood, I like the design. If you take time to look where you need to align the damn mark on, then you wouldn't have any trouble to put it on.
I have the 31LTD, but I use this lens more often. It's probably because I like the 35mm FOV on FF.

) I had been looking for this lens for quite a while and was fortunate enough to find it on ebay. It is one of Pentax' best lenses, a member of the FA* series. Optically it is fast, sharp, and has a great color rendition. On a digital SLR it corresponds to a moderate wide angle, great for landscape photography and street photography. Thanks to it's f/2.0 aperture it is quite suitable for street photography also at night. Mechanically it is first class, with a metal lens barrel and you can shift between autofocus and manual focus just by moving the focusing ring back and forth. The lens was designed for 35mm film cameras which is an additional bonus - you're not locked into the smaller digital format. A dedicated lens hood is included.

Very good wide angle, usable at f/2.00 of 1 people found this review helpful.
First, I have to first make it clear that the scores I give are skewed to the low side, or else every lens gets a 4 or 5 and it becomes difficult to compare. 3 seems low but this is only because the bar is raised very high. Pentax is a competent manufacturer of high-quality optics and their best glass can match or exceed the Zeiss glass that I reviewed. It is just that this particular 24/2.0 does not do so. However, there are several commendable strengths with this lens: its flare resistance is amazing, and wide open at f/2.0 it is pretty good. The colour is intense, but it is like blocks of colour with little discernable gradation. Micro-contrast is lacking - Pentax lenses are, if you allow me to over-generalize a bit, tuned for maximum overall contrast and strong colours.
The construction is fully metal. Focusing action is smooth and comparable to a manual focus lens. The finish is handsome but very easily scratched. At its price, it is already a bargain. We should not have unrealistic expectations in its absolute optical performance.
